The NSW Government’s commercial battery incentive became available on 1 September 2026.
Under the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme, eligible NSW businesses may be able to access an upfront discount on a new commercial battery installation. The incentive is designed to help businesses reduce energy costs, store more solar power and manage peak demand.
Here is a quick recap of what is available:
✔ Eligible battery systems between 20 kWh and 30 MWh
✔ Indicative discounts of around 20–30% for battery-only installations
✔ Indicative discounts of around 30–40% when new or additional solar is installed alongside the battery
✔ A small grocery store could receive a discount of around $37,000, while larger operations may be eligible for substantially more
✔ New or additional solar generally needs to be installed within 90 days before or after the battery to access the higher discount
✔ Federal incentives may also be available in some circumstances, subject to separate eligibility requirements
The NSW incentive currently has no planned closing date, but the actual discount depends on the battery, site, installer, approvals and project design.
