PROJECT UPDATE

Works are progressing well on the Kilcoy Indoor Sports Centre Upgrade, with the project continuing to take shape for Somerset Regional Council and the wider Kilcoy community.

The upgrade includes an expansion of the existing facilities, featuring a larger 24-hour gym, new gymnastics area, refurbishment works, upgraded amenities, improved accessibility and additional car parking.

Importantly, the project has been designed to support both current and future sport and recreation demand, while improving the long-term functionality and sustainability of the facility. A key feature will be the new secure 24-hour access gym, providing the community with greater flexibility and access outside standard operating hours.

We’re proud to be involved in delivering another important community-focused project for the region and look forward to seeing the finished result come to life.

Premis • Construction Insights

With extensive experience delivering projects in live hospital environments, we asked one of our team to share their perspective on what it takes to get it right.

Working in these environments isn’t just about construction. It’s about what’s happening around it.

When delivering projects in critical care environments, forecasting the impact of our works is just as important as planning the works themselves.

Noise, vibration, service shutdowns and access changes might seem manageable on paper, but in areas like theatres, ICU and recovery, even minor disruptions can have real consequences.

That’s why early engagement is critical.

Understanding how each department operates day to day allows us to plan around clinical priorities, not the other way around.

It means the program is structured from the outset. Staged works, temporary services and after hours activities are built in early, not introduced later. This approach reduces the risk of aborted shutdowns, restricted access and last minute changes that impact both hospital operations and the project.

Successful delivery in live healthcare environments comes down to this.

It’s not just about building efficiently. It’s about ensuring the hospital can continue to operate safely and effectively while the work is being delivered.

PROJECT COMPLETION: Premis has completed the refurbishment of approximately 700m² of office space within F Block Level 5 at Queensland University of Technology.

The project involved transforming an existing office environment into a refreshed and contemporary workspace better suited to the University’s current needs, including new meeting rooms, upgraded kitchen facilities, new workstations and significant mechanical services upgrades, including the installation of a new AHU.

This project adds to Premis’ growing portfolio of tertiary education projects delivered across live campus environments throughout Queensland.

Great effort by the entire project team and all subcontractors involved.

PROJECT WIN: We’re proud to be continuing our work with Metro North HHS, with Premis awarded the Mental Health Anti-Ligature Remediation (Stage 3) project.

Following the successful completion of Stage 2, this next stage forms part of Metro North Health’s broader Accreditation Action Plan and will involve works across:
• The Prince Charles Hospital
• Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital
• Caboolture Hospital

The project includes remediation works to bedroom entry doors, hydraulic fixtures and fittings, mechanical and electrical fitments, along with associated anti-ligature and anti-barricade measures.

It’s great to continue building on the relationship with Metro North Health and to be trusted to deliver another stage of these important works.

Some of the Premis team are taking part in The Push-Up Challenge from 3–26 June and we’d love others across our industry and community to get involved too.

Participants are challenged to complete 3,307 push-ups over 24 days, representing the 3,307 lives lost to su***de in Australia in 2024. There is also a half target option of 1,654 push-ups and alternative exercises such as sit-ups and squats can be completed instead.

More importantly, it’s about raising awareness around mental health and starting more conversations.

The challenge is free to join and includes a simple app that provides daily targets and mental health facts throughout the campaign.

Our team is also raising funds to support mental health services and initiatives across Australia. If participating isn’t for you, donations are always appreciated.

A major milestone reached at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane, with Level 6 Stage 1 now live.

A few progress shots before the professional photography once the full project is complete.

The project began through an Early Contractor Involvement process, with the Premis team working alongside Mater and the design team from the early stages before transitioning into the Principal Contractor role.

Part of Mater’s Priority Pathway Program, the works support the hospital’s increasing surgical activity and transition toward a stronger surgical focus.

We look forward to sharing more as the project progresses toward completion.

A project that still stands out…The Everton Park Library.

Delivered for Brisbane City Council, this was a new two-storey library and community facility, including undercroft parking, designed to support a growing local community.

With an exceptional design by Bureau Proberts, the project reflects how libraries have evolved.

They’re no longer just quiet spaces. They are active community hubs, and this needed to be considered from the outset.

Open, flexible and accessible spaces.
Areas for learning, connection and community use.
A facility designed to evolve over time.

It’s a good example of the kind of projects we enjoy being part of.

Upgrading a 120-year-old building is never straightforward. Doing it while it’s fully operational adds another layer again.

Premis has recently completed the refurbishment and modernisation of the Judith Wright Arts Centre for Arts Queensland, a multi-use creative hub in Brisbane spanning approximately 3,000sqm across five levels.

The works included new rehearsal spaces, office fitouts, major structural upgrades, a full reroof, services upgrades, and the installation of a new lift, including an additional shaft from Level 4 to 5.

Delivered within a live, operational environment, the project was carefully staged to ensure the building could continue to support performers, students, staff and the public throughout the works.

The result is a significantly enhanced, more accessible and contemporary facility that will continue to support Queensland’s arts community for years to come.

Working in a live environment changes everything.

You’re not just managing a construction site, you’re working around people, operations and environments that can’t stop. Hospitals, schools and active workplaces all bring a different level of complexity, and that’s where the real risk sits.

Noise can impact critical spaces, service interruptions often aren’t an option, and access is usually limited to specific times and areas. On top of that, there are multiple stakeholders who need to understand exactly what’s happening and when.

This isn’t something you can figure out as you go. It requires careful planning, a clear methodology and a team that understands how these environments actually operate.

At Premis, a large portion of our 1200 projects have been delivered in live environments, and what we’ve learned is this.

Construction is only part of the job.

Communication, coordination and a genuine understanding of how a space functions day to day are what make the difference.

Because in these environments, success isn’t just about what you build, it’s about what you don’t disrupt.
