You may have seen us working in the front garden outside the RSL over the past few days, and we wanted to share the reason behind it.

We have removed the old plants, replaced the soil, and added something that is a very small token of appreciation for those who have served this country. We’re proud to have planted a rosemary hedge outside the Macksville Ex-Servicemen’s Club.

Why rosemary?

Rosemary has long been a symbol of remembrance, especially in connection with ANZAC traditions. It grows wild on the Gallipoli Peninsula, where so many brave Australian and New Zealand soldiers served, and over time it has come to represent memory, respect, and honour.

By planting this hedge, we wanted to create a lasting tribute to all those who have served to protect our country—past and present. It may be something simple, but it carries deep meaning. A living reminder for our community to pause, reflect, and remember the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy today.
