🔌Don’t get cord out…With winter now well and truly upon us you’re probably using more electrical appliances to keep you warm.
Here’s some helpful tips before plugging in:
🔍 Always inspect cords for damage
Before plugging anything in, check for frayed wires, exposed conductors, or melted insulation. Damaged cords can cause electric shocks, short circuits, or fires.
💡 Invest in quality products
Use electrical cords and power boards that meet Australian Standards and carry the Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM). Cheap, non-compliant products pose serious risks.
🤲 Handle equipment gently
Avoid pulling cords from sockets or bending them sharply. This can weaken internal wiring and lead to faults over time.
📘 Follow manufacturer instructions
Use cords, extension leads, and power boards as directed. Misuse or DIY modifications can void warranties and create unsafe conditions.
⚠️ Avoid overloading outlets
Plugging too many devices into one outlet can overheat the circuit and potentially start a fire. Know the load limit for your power boards and circuits.
👨👩👧👦 Educate your family on electrical safety
Teach children and others in your home how to use cords safely – Don’t run cords under carpets, using damaged leads, or play with plugs.
