The retaining wall is finished and it’s time to put a final grade on the site ready for paving to go down. I’ve been using the laser level to put a small amount of fall on the ground away from the house to the retaining wall and east and west along the retaining wall so that water will drain away and not pool. It’s great to be putting the finishing touches on this project and it’s going to look great when it’s complete!

I've been helping out on a project building a retaining wall this week. Running a 5.5 tonne excavator to move and position the blocks. It's been interesting fun work.

I'm also doing some landscaping on the same site shaping and compacting a steep slope.

Just a small job today delivering approximately nine tonnes of broken rock to a customer. If you need heavy rock for your garden - this is flint, very hard, very heavy, very sharp! - then let me know. I can deliver.

Do you need regrowth trees, sifton bush, or blackberry cleared on your property? I can help with that at a reasonable price compared to employing a forestry mulcher.

I got to work for a lovely couple up in Tahmoor this week. Over a day and a half we cut back the soil around their shed in preparation for the construction of a retaining wall.

Then we pulled out a massive tree stump that was very well attached to the ground. I excavated around it and broke off the roots, but it wasn't coming out. So we split it in half and then we were able to rip out the pieces.

Finally we transplanted a large mulberry tree. It was interesting and challenging work.

I built a small swale recently to help, control and slow run off for a customer. It's has a couple of workouts with all of the rain in the last week and so far it seems to be doing well!

There was a break in the rain today in the Southern Highlands, so I finally had a chance to complete a small (but important) project spreading and levelling the gravel on a driveway.

All up it only took two and a half hours. If you're finding it hard to get someone to come and do your small earthmoving project then drop me a line. No job too small!

No work this week due to the rain! But it was a chance to catch up on some maintenance. I finally put the front window back in the skid steer after refurbishing the door. I have to say, putting the window in is my absolute least favourite job to do! But it’s done now, so I can enjoy my air-conditioning and staying clean in dusty condition when the hot weather returns.

I recently acquired a tractor and slasher, so I can now offer slashing services. My tractor is small and manoeuvrable with a very tight turning circle, so it can work in and around trees and other obstacles that a larger tractor couldn’t.

The slasher will cut down and shred sifton bush and other small scrub with ease. It‘s also good for controlling serrated tussock.

If you have land that needs maintenance, or clearing then give me a call or text on 0487 760 308. Between my slasher, excavator, and skid steer there isn’t much that I can’t handle!

I worked on a fun project back before Christmas building a swale to control run off and prevent erosion on a property. There was an existing water diversion structure that collected run off and dumped it over the edge in one place. This was causing erosion to the hill side and to the road below.

The solution is a swale with level top. Initially it will fill up and hold the water, letting it seep into the ground rather than just run off. In larger rain events when it does over-top the water will spill all along the swale, reducing the stress on the land below and preventing the water cutting into the hill face and the road.

This video shows the first half of the job.

If you’re wondering what my excavator can handle when clearing overgrown vegetation then this timelapse will give you a good idea. It’s powerful enough to tackle small trees with ease, but small enough to work in tight spaces and around the plants that you want to keep.

If you need your garden renovated then call me on 0487 760 308

Squeezed in one last job before Christmas!

This garden was badly overgrown on one side and under the back verandah. So I cleared it all with the excavator and loaded the green waste into a 15m3 skip. The end result was a nice clean slate for the owner to work with.
