Alanjohn R Jones LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT As a passionate adventurer of life. I'm a firm believer that all aspects of existence can be a canvas for cureativity.

As a sculptor and a lover of growing my own food I’ve choose to experiment with landscape to develop it as a new/old medium to explore new/old themes. Many of our cites are built on fertile land that is simple left as lawn or concrete. Just 50 years ago the suburban matrix was producing much more of the food we would eat & the lives we live. Through curating land art : foodscape projects I would like to re-curate a new model for how this Brave New World is for all of us.

Congratulations to my dear friend & the outstanding UNSW quantum research team on this elegant & thought provoking exploration of quantum error detection.

What stands out to me is the strong connection with sustainable design theory. In both quantum systems & fields such as ecology or urban design, progress depends on more than what we already understand. It depends on our ability to recognise, detect and respond to the known unknowns that exist within complex systems. Building resilience means identifying small errors early before they cascade into larger outcomes.

A remarkable contribution and a fascinating glimpse into the future of science & innovation, reminding us that the future belongs to those who can navigate uncertainty.

I first visited the Cairngorms region in 2016 and was deeply impressed by the scale of long-term thinking already underway through and their 200-year vision for the recovery and maturation of old growth Scots Pine forest, helping safeguard species such as the Black Grouse.

At a time when much of the world remains focused on short-term returns, projects like this demonstrate that environmental restoration and long-term economic value are not mutually exclusive. Healthy ecosystems underpin tourism, water security, biodiversity, climate resilience, and future regional prosperity.

Ancient forest systems cannot simply be manufactured overnight. They require patience, stewardship, and the willingness to invest beyond our own lifetimes.

The foresight behind a multi-generational legacy project of this scale reflects an understanding that some of the greatest economic and cultural returns come from thinking in centuries rather than quarters.

Cairngorms Connect is a partnership of neighbouring land managers, committed to a bold and ambitious 200-year vision to enhance habitats, species and ecologi...
