How can you tell if a blockwork joint sealing application has been installed correctly?

As one of the final finishes, achieving clean, consistent applications and the right colour match takes skill, precision and an eye for detail.

When silicone is done well, you barely notice it. When it’s done poorly, it can stand out for all the wrong reasons, taking away from the quality workmanship and finishes delivered by the other skilled trades and builders on a project.

A little BTS from our training day with Tyler from Bostik!

Joint sealing is a specialist trade and there's a lot more to it than just selecting the right product.

Particularly when it comes to fire-rated and engineer specified applications, understanding the product, its limitations, the system requirements and how it must be installed is critical to achieving a compliant results.

That's why we place such a strong emphasis on technical knowledge, product training and continually developing the skills of our applicators to deliver the best service to our clients.

With our crew spread across 53 commercial projects + our volume single resi jobs, it's not often we get everyone together. Days like these are a great opportunity to share knowledge, ask questions and learn from both our suppliers and the experience within our own team.

For us, supplier partnerships have never been just about price. We value working with people who stand behind their products, share their technical knowledge and help us continually raise the standard of our work.

Our relationship with Bostik and Tyler goes right back to when Scott was operating as a sole trader. As our business has grown, the level of service, technical support and willingness to share knowledge has remained consistent, enabeling us to raise the standard and educate our clients on a trade that is often overlooked in a programme.

Meet Brooklyn | Joint Sealing Applicator 👷‍♂️

Brooklyn has been part of the Downseal Solutions team for almost a year now, working across a range of our commercial projects.

Before starting his career in joint sealing, Brooklyn was working night shifts at Tip Top. Moving into a completely new trade was a big change and as he’ll tell you, there was plenty to learn in the beginning!

One of the things Brooklyn has enjoyed most is learning from the crew. Each person has shared different skills, tips and techniques along the way, and as Brooklyn puts it, all those little pieces have gradually come together like a puzzle.

These days, he enjoys getting out on site, working alongside the supervisors and the teams while continuing to build his skills with every project.

It's been great watching Brooklyn find his feet in the trade, grow in confidence and develop his skills over the past year.

We're glad to have him as part of the Downseal team and look forward to seeing him continue to excel! 🤝

Here’s a glimpse into the types of projects currently in our Q4 pipeline, with plenty happening across South East QLD. The team is busy servicing 52 commercial projects as we head towards the end of the year.

- Rockpool by McNab, an aged care project spanning five storeys with 153 rooms
- Evora by Bekka Group, a multi-residential development consisting of 150 apartments
- Ecogrowth by Hutchinsons Builders, a production facility project located in Wellcamp
- Parkside Carindale by Hutchinsons Builders, a multi-residential project forming part of a major multi-stage retirement village expansion.

We’re currently sitting at a 5–6 week lead time, with our schedule filling up very fast into 2027.

POV: You own and run a commercial trade business with your husband and decide to spend the day doing marketing together. 😂

A bit of QA & project progress checks, a bit of content creation, plenty of client and team chats and an unnecessary amount of banter.

Somehow we actually got work done before heading back to the office for the late shift because what doesn’t make the socials is all the planning, coordination and behind the scenes work that goes into keeping projects moving, clients happy and growing a business.

The DS Crew over the years!

From 2019 to 2021, it was just Scott as a sole trader, working alongside a few trusted subcontractors.

Then Downseal Solutions was officially born as a company in 2022. Scott convinced Sylvia to join him in business and help bring his vision to life, Fergus joined as Downseal's first employee and the rest is history.

What started with our founder, Scott, has grown into the Downseal team we have today. Year after year, new faces have joined the crew, new skills have been brought to the table and there have been plenty of good times along the way.

From the early days to where we are now, it’s pretty cool to look back and see just how far we’ve come and the awesome people we get to work alongside today.

We’re still growing and have a few of our offshore team who couldn't be here for the video and a few new faces joining the Downseal HQ team very soon! 🤝

Meet Bella | Marketing & Admin Coordinator

Bella has been a valued part of the Downseal team for over 5 months, playing an important role across our marketing and general administration, helping keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

From planning and filming content to creating social media posts and keeping things organised, Bella works across a little bit of everything.

For Bella, one of the most rewarding parts of her role is seeing everything come together, from the initial planning and filming through to the finished content, and seeing the team’s hard work out on site.

She also enjoys being able to capture the people behind Downseal and showcase the work our team does across different projects.
