PROJECT | Commercial Fitout

EDC Systems QLD completed electrical, lighting and communications works as part of a Pilates Studio fitout in Newstead.

Working within the broader fitout, EDC coordinated the electrical and communications works to suit the studio layout, equipment and finished areas.

The scope included lighting and power throughout the studio and amenities, emergency and exit lighting, Cat6 communications cabling and infrastructure to support speakers and displays throughout the space.

The completed studio is a strong example of EDC’s commercial project and fitout capability, bringing together multiple services within a clean, finished environment.

PROJECT | Decorative Outdoor Lighting Infrastructure

EDC Systems QLD worked alongside a specialist lighting supplier to deliver the supporting electrical infrastructure for a decorative lighting project across several outdoor areas of a Brisbane education campus.

The works included new power supplies, weatherproof outlets, low-voltage cabling, transformer housings and Bluetooth time-clock controls to support tree lighting, festoon lighting and LED uplights.

The installation required careful coordination and practical positioning of cabling and equipment around existing buildings, landscaped areas and mature trees.

The completed works provided the power, cabling and control infrastructure required to support the specialist lighting installation across the campus.

PROJECT | Data and Communications

EDC Systems QLD completed structured cabling and fibre backbone works as part of a new junior learning block at a South East Queensland education facility.

The project included the supply and installation of a Molex Cat6 certified structured cabling system, together with an OM4 12-core fibre backbone connecting the server room and learning block infrastructure.

EDC also installed a copper voice backbone connected to the school’s existing network, along with associated rack equipment including a new power rail, UPS and patch leads.

The completed Cat6 copper and OM4 multimode fibre optic installation was fully labelled, tested and commissioned, with certification test results and complete as-built documentation provided on completion.

MEET OUR PEOPLE | Ed

Meet Ed Cornel, Project Manager at EDC Systems QLD.

With 37 years’ experience in the electrical and communications industry, including 23 years with EDC, Ed brings a wealth of practical experience to the team.

His work spans commercial electrical, communications, fibre optics, service, maintenance and project delivery, supporting clients across schools, government facilities, commercial sites and other operating environments.

Much of Ed’s work takes place in occupied sites, where good communication, careful planning and timing are important. He brings a practical and steady approach, helping clients find cost-effective solutions while keeping disruption to a minimum.

Over his time with EDC, Ed has built many long-term client relationships through his approach to service, maintenance and project delivery.

Outside of work, Ed’s life is all about the beach - surfing, swimming, beach walking and being part of his local community.

PROJECT | Data & Communications

EDC Systems QLD recently completed a Cat6A Molex-certified structured cabling installation as part of the refurbishment of the library and STEM buildings at a local Brisbane Primary School.

The EDC team completed the data installation across both buildings as part of the broader refurbishment works.

PROJECT | EV Charging Infrastructure

When an operational medical site purchased two EVs, EDC Systems QLD was engaged to design and install the supporting charging infrastructure.

The existing electrical system had limited capacity, so the new installation needed to accommodate the additional demand without affecting the site’s local critical infrastructure.

As NHP products were already used throughout the site, EDC worked closely with NHP during design, testing and commissioning. This allowed the client to maintain a consistent product line with local product support.

The works included new submains, a dedicated three-phase distribution board, cable support systems, final subcircuits, fire sealing and certification.

Cabling was installed between multiple levels and through high-traffic underground carpark areas, with safety spotters and clear communication used to manage the works around staff and site operations.

PROJECT | External Lighting Upgrade

EDC Systems QLD recently completed new pathway and landscape lighting at an education site to help improve visibility and safer access after dark.

With a new playground planned for the area, the EDC team identified that the electrical cabling needed to be installed before the playground works progressed and access to the cable route became restricted.

The completed works included new pathway lighting and uplights to three trees.

A straightforward project where early planning helped ensure the electrical infrastructure was installed at the right stage of the broader site works.

Meet Steve Gillis, Director of Systems QLD.

With more than 45 years in the electrical industry, Steve has led the business for the past 30 years, helping build EDC around practical service, long-term client relationships and reliable support across a wide range of commercial, educational, healthcare and industrial environments.

Today, Steve oversees the broader direction of the business, leading the team while continuing to focus on safety, quality and delivering practical solutions for clients.

Steve believes EDC's role is to make the client's job easier by taking responsibility for the work entrusted to the team. His approach is practical, responsive, solutions-focused and built on clear communication.

One of the parts of his role Steve is most proud of is seeing people develop through the business. From apprentices starting their careers to experienced team members continuing to grow, he enjoys seeing people build long-term careers with EDC.

Steve is also proud of the team culture he has helped develop, where people work together, support one another and take pride in the work they do.

Outside of work, Steve enjoys camping around South East Queensland, spending time with family, keeping active and being part of his local community.
