When a shower has been leaking for an extended period, the damage can go far beyond what you can see.

This recent project required extensive demolition, mould remediation and structural drying after long-term water damage had affected the surrounding building materials.

But there’s something that often gets overlooked in projects like this…

The impact on the tenants who still have to call this house their home.

For the property owner, there’s the financial cost of repairs. For the tenants, there’s the disruption to their everyday lives, the noise, the equipment, the loss of access to parts of their home and the uncertainty of how long it will all take.

At Mr Remediation, we believe both sides deserve consideration.

For this project, our team took extra steps to minimise the impact on the household while carrying out the necessary works.

✅ Critical containment barriers were installed to separate the affected work areas from the occupied living spaces.

✅ Negative air pressure and HEPA filtration were utilised to help control airborne contaminants and reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

✅ Controlled demolition and mould remediation were undertaken to address the damage caused by the long-term shower leak.

✅ Structural drying equipment was installed to address moisture within the affected building materials.

✅ Consideration for the tenants’ sleep was a priority. We arranged for equipment to be isolated from outside the work zones where practical, allowing the occupants some much-needed peace and quiet overnight.

Because while we’re there to restore a property, the people living in it shouldn’t feel forgotten.

It costs nothing to communicate, show respect, think about someone’s sleeping arrangements or recognise that having strangers working inside your home can be stressful.

😂 Nearly took the new apprentice to work this morning…

Jumped in the work van, loaded up the remediation gear, PPE, air scrubbers, chemicals…

Then realised we had a stowaway. 🐔

Apparently she’d heard Mr Remediation was hiring and decided to report for duty.

✅ Arrived early
✅ Hi-vis attitude
✅ Excellent at scratching around for hidden problems
✅ Will work for chicken feed
❌ Zero IICRC qualifications
❌ Refused to wear PPE

Unfortunately, she didn’t make it past the pre-start. 😂

😂 WENT CAMPING THIS WEEK… WELL, SORT OF.

When we say specialised cleaning and restoration, we really do mean it.

This camper had spent a little too much time wet, damp and closed up, leaving the canvas and internal linings looking pretty ordinary and carrying that unmistakable damp odour.

So instead of sitting around the campfire, we brought out the HEPA vacuum, antimicrobial and plenty of elbow grease. 💪😂

The restoration included:

• A detailed HEPA vacuum throughout
• A thorough hands-on scrub of the canvas and internal linings
• Antimicrobial treatment of affected surfaces
• Enzyme treatment to help break down that stubborn wet and damp odour
• Detailed attention to the seams, folds and easy-to-miss areas

And the transformation speaks for itself. 👌

🌿 MOULD ON K’GARI — SHOULD YOU REALLY OPEN THE WINDOWS? 🪟💨

It sounds logical… “Open everything up and let the house breathe.”

But in a humid coastal environment like K’gari (Fraser Island), that advice can sometimes make the problem worse.

If the outside air is already carrying a high moisture load, opening the building can bring that moisture straight inside. Add dust, settled contaminants and cooler internal surfaces, and you may be providing exactly what dormant mould spores need to germinate.

🎥 In this quick video, we explain why understanding humidity is just as important as ventilation when managing mould in coastal properties.

We’re regularly called across K’gari, Hervey Bay, Maryborough and the wider Fraser Coast/Wide Bay region to investigate mould and moisture problems, and prevention often starts with understanding the environment.

💡 Helpful tip: Before automatically opening every window on a humid or wet day, check the conditions outside first. Sometimes keeping the building closed and using air conditioning or dehumidification is the better option.

Close to two years between these first two photos… and they tell a story I never thought I’d share. ❤️

The first one?

Burnt out. Overwhelmed. Exhausted. Running on empty while trying to keep everything going, business, home, life and relationships.

The truth is, somewhere along the way I completely lost myself. I became disconnected, numb and eventually reached a point where I had nothing left to give.

I spent two months in a facility focusing on getting my health back, and at the time, I genuinely didn’t know what coming out the other side would look like. ❤️‍🩹

The second photo?

Healing. Smiling. Present. 😊

Not because life suddenly became easier, but because I finally realised I didn’t have to carry everything on my own.

I asked for help. I accepted it. And I did the work. 💪

Fast forward to today, and I’m Co-Managing Director of Mr. Remediation something Paul Pringle and I have built together and are incredibly proud of.

But one of the biggest things we’ve both learned is that success in business means very little if you lose yourself along the way.

About six months ago, Paul and I attended a Smoke Circle run by Ray Brown Success & Fulfilment Coach centred around brotherhood, standards, accountability and having real conversations. 🔥

A few months later, Paul completed an EMPWR day and, well outside his comfort zone, started heading into the gym for his first workouts.

Fast forward again and apparently we’re deadlifting now. 😂💪

Although, as the photo proves, getting the weight off the floor is the easy part… standing back up is where things get interesting. 😂

There’s actually something pretty fitting about that.

We spend so much of our lives carrying the weight of businesses, families, responsibilities and everyone around us that sometimes we forget to make time for ourselves.

These days, we hold each other accountable, not just for the work that needs doing, but for making time to look after ourselves too. 🤝

We’re still learning. We still have hard days. We definitely don’t have it all figured out.

But we’ve both learned something along the way:

Hard times can build strong people. 💯

Speak up. Reach out. Accept help when you need it. Make time for yourself, and look after the people beside you.

And when life gets heavy…

Pick it up, have a crack, and keep getting back up. ❤️💪

What a way to head into Monday! 💚💙

We’ve just returned from the RIA Conference & Trade Show feeling motivated, inspired and excited for what’s ahead at Mr Remediation.

Having the opportunity to learn from some of the best in our industry, hear about industry changes, new technologies and better ways of doing things was invaluable.
