Hope ReBuilders was founded in 2015 as a volunteer support and fundraising body to Fuller Center for Housing. The aim has always been to raise a million dollars to build a ReBuild Center as a base of operations from which we can build modular homes that are simple to build and affordable to many.
While the development and operation of affordable housing has remained central to our work, Hope ReBuilders continues to add programs and services that will assist residents and the greater community.
Due to legal and operational differences between Australia and the USA, it was recently decided that we would be more effective if we were totally autonomous from Fuller Center for Housing International and as such would relaunch in Australia as Hope ReBuilders Community Foundation to encompass what we do in the community. There is really no difference to our essential vision and mission, in that we are still soldiers in the war on poverty housing – fighting for a world in which everyone has a safe and secure home in which to live in peace and harmony.
Vision Statement
A community in which everyone has a safe place to call home and the resources they need to thrive.
Mission Statement
We strengthen communities and provide pathways to economic and personal opportunity through affordable housing, robust programs and support services.
Our Values
Respect. We believe that all people should be treated with respect and dignity. We appreciate and recognise the value that each person – whether a resident, employee, board member, vendor, community partner or donor – brings to our work and to the community.
Empowerment. We believe in the power of autonomy, self-determination and the efficacy of personal commitment to advancing personal and organisational goals. In keeping with these principles, we maintain an environment in which staff and clients have the ability to make decisions about their personal well-being and organisational direction as often as possible.
Inclusiveness. We value and embrace diversity in all its forms. We are intentional in our actions to hire, engage and serve individuals with diverse characteristics related to ethnicity, gender, socio-economic position, legal status, ableness and age – with particular attention to be representative of the communities we work within. We know that including various perspectives and experiences will make our decision-making stronger, the impact of our programs greater and the community richer.
Community. The celebration and elevation of ourselves, our families, our neighborhoods, our cities, and our world.
Collaboration. We believe we are stronger together than independently and that great things come from the blending of ideas and strategies. We greatly value partnerships, internal and external – as a means to leverage community resources, heighten impact and drive individual and community change. We particularly cherish the close relationships we are able to build with churches, schools and community service organisations.
Housing Ownership
Hope ReBuilders carries on the traditions of both Fuller Center for Housing and Habitat for Humanity, both of which were founded by Millard and Linda Fuller. We aim to provide safe secure housing to families based on economic capacity. This means we choose to reserve our housing for individuals and families whose income is below the South East Queensland Median Income, ensuring that it remains a place where everyone can afford to live.
We believe that every family has the right to decent, safe, affordable housing, and so we do our best to provide quality homes to those with limited economic resources. Additionally, we are committed to maintaining the rich cultural diversity of each community in which Hope ReBuilders is chosen to collaborate.
Habitat, Fuller, and now Hope ReBuilders has always been about an ownership model. We work with partner families who commit to 5oo hours of “sweat equity” and a small deposit of $500.00. WE than work alongside them, marshalling volunteer manpower and donations of money and materials to build their house. They then enter into a split equity mortgage agreement whereby they repay 70% of the agreed value of the house at 25% of their income (reviewed annually) at zero % interest. Hope ReBuilders holds the other 30% equity; however, this is reduced by 1% each year based on the partner family’s timely repayments honouring their mortgage commitment.
Non-Discrimination Policy
Hope ReBuilders, and all of its entities, does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. The activities include, but are not limited to, hiring and firing of staff, selection of volunteers and vendors, and provision of services. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our staff, clients, residents, and volunteers.
Hope ReBuilders is an equal opportunity employer. We will not discriminate and will take affirmative action measures to ensure against discrimination in employment, recruitment, advertisement for employment, compensation, termination, upgrading, promotions, and other conditions of employment against any employee or job applicant on the bases of race, color, gender, national origin, age, religion, creed, disability, veteran’s status, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
