Resene | Transform Your Entryway.

The entryway is the first thing you see when you walk through the door — and the first impression your home makes on guests. Yet it's often one of the most overlooked spaces when it comes to thoughtful design.

Resene has put together a great resource covering smart storage solutions and the latest colour trends to help create entryways that are as functional as they are beautiful — a useful reference for Building Designers and a great conversation starter with clients during the early stages of a project.

Public Seminar | Designing the Home You Actually Want.

What if the biggest thing holding back your clients' homes isn't the budget - it's the assumptions?

BDQ is pleased to present an upcoming public seminar with Queensland Building Designer and Tempus Design Studio founder Tamica Lewis, exploring one of the most valuable conversations a Building Designer can have with a client: what does this household actually need, and what are they simply including out of habit?

As construction costs continue to rise, the case for rethinking the standard floor plan has never been stronger. The double garage, the formal living room, the fourth bedroom - features included not because anyone asked for them, but because they're expected. Tamica's session challenges those assumptions head on and gives designers practical tools to help clients make better, more deliberate decisions from the very start of a project.

What attendees will take away:

- How to identify which spaces and features genuinely improve daily life and which are simply inherited from convention
- Why designing away from standard floor plans leads to better, more personal outcomes
- How to reduce unnecessary floor area and design for multiple purposes without sacrificing liveability

Tamica brings both hands-on Building Design expertise and deep industry knowledge to this session - as a former President of BDQ, she understands the industry from every angle.

This is a session worth sharing with your clients, family and friends too. If they've ever looked at a standard floor plan and thought "this doesn't feel like us" - this is exactly where to start.

Join us at The Build and Design Centre at 11am on Saturday 13 June for this FREE seminar. Register here: https://buildanddesigncentre.com.au/seminar/design-with-purpose/

Some partnerships are just built to last.

For over 35 years, James Hardie and Queensland's Building Designers have shared something special - a genuine, enduring relationship built on trust, respect and a shared commitment to great design outcomes.

We are proud to announce that James Hardie has recommitted as BDQ's Major Partner, continuing a relationship that has spanned more than three decades. That kind of loyalty doesn't happen by accident - it happens when two organisations truly value what the other brings to the table.

Our CEO Wayne Owens sat down with Jared Wild, James Hardie State Sales Manager, to talk about what this partnership means and what's ahead for Building Design in Queensland in 2026. It's a conversation worth watching.

At BDQ, we believe that relationships are everything - with our members, our partners, and the communities we design for. James Hardie embodies that belief, and we are incredibly grateful for their continued support.

Here's to the next chapter!
