🚨 NOT OUR INSTALLATION 🚨

Must of been Friday arv and the install boys were late for the pub, just chuck ‘er in bloke she’ll be right mate, surely 🫠🫠🫠

Previous installer absolutely followed at least 4 of the AS/NZS3000 rules when completing this job… 🤥

🔧 1. Cables must be supported & secured
* Cables cannot just be loose or draped
* Must be clipped/supported, or otherwise fixed to prevent sagging or damage (no looping)



🔧 2. “Likely to be disturbed” zones. Roof cavities fall into this category when:
* The ceiling space is >600mm high, or
* Within 2m of an access point (manhole)

In these areas, wiring must:

* Be mechanically protected (e.g. conduit, capping, or appropriate routing)
* Be installed to avoid being stepped on or damaged



🔧 3. Protection from damage. Cables must be:

* Kept clear of areas where people walk or crawl
* Protected from:
* Sharp edges
* Fixings (screws/nails through ceilings etc)
* Insulation overheating risks



🔧 4. Routing rules

* Must be run in a predictable manner (generally parallel/perpendicular to structure)
* Avoid random or diagonal runs (for safety + future maintenance)

🚨 NOT OUR INSTALL WORK 🚨

On today’s episode of what did we find when doing a ducted service: a Bluetooth safety drain ie: appalling install work. (At least there’s no snakes 🐍)

A safety drain on a ducted aircon; is a backup condensate drain line designed to prevent water damage/ceiling collapse if the main drain fails and fills the safety pan.

Here’s how it works in simple terms:

* Your ducted system produces condensation (water) when it cools the air.
* That water normally flows out through the primary drain line.
* If that main drain gets blocked/kinked/clogged, water can overflow inside the ceiling or unit causing catastrophic damage
* The safety drain (secondary drain) acts as a fail-safe:
* It redirects excess water to a visible location (like outside a wall/eave) alerting the owner that the main drain may need some attention.

All that above is good and well….. if the safety drain isn’t of the Bluetooth variety….. 🤦‍♀️
