Eight years ago, the journey began when Very Edible Gardens' very own Dan Palmer embarked on an Adaptive Design process for the remarkable families at Mayberry in Woodend, Victoria. This endeavour led to major improvements, including driveway realignment, the creation of dams and drainage systems, and the planting of an impressive variety of trees—from local natives to several types of oaks. 🌳

Fast forward to this today, and the landscape has dramatically transformed: the dams are full and teeming with life, and the trees ambitiously reach for the sky, a testament to all involved. Amidst this thriving ecosystem, we've just enhanced Mayberry further by installing 10 wicking beds, complete with bench seats and top capping, creating a vibrant space for family and community gatherings. These wicking beds revolutionize cultivation, allowing for year-round growth without the hassle of the resilient grasses that previously hindered market garden efforts. Moreover, they simplify watering and significantly reduce water usage compared to traditional in-ground methods. 💧🌱

We're eagerly hoping a fire drum will be the next addition, making it the ultimate garden gathering spot. 🔥

The cypress really popped in the afternoon light and will stay lovely and golden for a while before slowly silvering off with time.
With the threat of El Niño on the horizon now is the time to make the jump to a wicking bed if you have been on the fence with them.
