What happens in the days before handover?

Before we hand over the keys, the home goes through a detailed inspection. Anything that needs a touch-up is marked with a blue dot, and our finishing trades work through each one. Then the cleaners come through for a final once-over, and the home is ready for its new owners.

It’s always a busy few days, but it’s our favourite part of the build. After months of work, it’s the moment everything comes to life.

Keys handed over in Buddina.

This one was a real team effort. From early design conversations with .designstudio right through to the final walkthrough.

A standout feature is the downstairs self-contained wing, with its own separate entry and an internal door connecting it to the main home. It gives the family real flexibility - a home office, a teenage retreat, space for ageing parents or a place for guests to stay.

It’s a great example of what a knockdown rebuild makes possible: staying in the location you love, with a home designed around how your family lives now and in the years ahead.

Warm timber tones through the kitchen and ensuite, a curved wall that softens the walk from the kitchen to the hallway, and a built-in bench seat for dropping bags at the door. Wall-mounted tapware, a frameless shower screen and a walk-in robe fitted out with drawers and shelving.

Building custom means deciding where those details go, and they don’t always depend on a bigger floor plan.

Building a home is a big decision, and it's worth feeling completely confident in who you're building with. Here's what we'd suggest checking before you sign with anyone.

1. Do a QBCC licence search. It's free, and it shows you your builder's history - how long they've been licensed, and whether they're operating within the right category for your project.
2. Look at their track record on the ground. How long are their jobs actually taking to complete, from start to finish? A steady, consistent pace on site is a good sign of a business that's running well.
3. Ask to visit a current site, not just a finished display home. How a site's run day to day, the tidiness, the organisation, tells you a lot about the standard of work going into your own build.
