💡 Looking after your steel garden edging is easier than you might think.
When people ask about product longevity, coastal locations often get the spotlight—but they're just one of several environmental factors that can influence how steel performs over time.

🌊 Coastal and marine environments
Airborne salt and chloride can accelerate corrosion and make it harder for weathering steel to develop a stable protective patina. If you're near the coast, apply bitumen paint to buried surfaces before installation and consider sealing exposed surfaces once the patina has fully developed.

🌱 Soil levels
The soil line is one of the most common areas for premature wear. If soil settles or washes away, new corrosion zones can develop. Regularly topping up soil and fill levels is one of the simplest and most effective maintenance steps you can take.

🍂 Mulch, wood chips and compost
Organic materials can trap moisture against the steel and create conditions that accelerate corrosion. Where possible, use gravel, pebbles or other inorganic materials as a buffer between the steel and organic matter.

🏊 Pools, paving and concrete
Areas around pools, concrete paths and paved surfaces can experience increased moisture retention, splashback and exposure to chemicals. Taking these conditions into account during installation can help maximise product lifespan.

🛠️ A little prevention goes a long way
✔ Apply bitumen paint to buried surfaces before installation.
✔ Keep soil levels topped up.
✔ Avoid packing organic material directly against steel.
✔ Consider sealing weathering steel once the desired patina develops.
✔ For highly aggressive environments, galvanised steel offers outstanding long-term durability.

Definitely one of the most stunning, classic garden transformations we’ve seen! 🌿

The team at Groundcover Landscaping completely revitalised this beautiful walkway under a massive, established wisteria canopy.

To perfectly frame the formal hedges and long garden paths, they installed nearly 80 metres of Straightcurve® garden edging.

Using a rigid, engineered steel edge along a grand walkway like this is the ultimate way to lock everything into place. It delivers a perfectly straight, structural line that highlights the geometric layout of the hedges while remaining subtle enough to let that gorgeous timber pergola take centre stage.

When you are dealing with a blank canvas of raw dirt and tricky elevation changes, the biggest challenge is creating structure out of nowhere. This transformation hits the mark perfectly, using multi-level weathering steel to establish clean zones and distinct focal points right from the ground up.

As that rich, rustic patina continues to develop against the stone and new plantings, the whole space is only going to look more integrated over time.
