A system that cools the room is not the same as a system that is sized correctly for it.
Undersized and oversized aircon systems are both common in Brisbane homes, and both cost more to run than a correctly matched unit. Most homeowners never find out because the system technically works. It just never works as well as it should.
Here is what to look for:
✔ The system runs constantly but never quite reaches the set temperature. This is a common sign of undersizing. The unit is working at full capacity but cannot meet the load of the space.
✔ The system cools quickly then cycles off and on repeatedly. This is short cycling, a sign of oversizing. A unit too large for the room reaches temperature too fast, switches off, then restarts frequently. This wears components faster and increases running costs.
✔ Humidity stays high even when the room feels cool. Correct sizing allows the system to run long enough to properly dehumidify the air. An oversized unit cutting out early leaves moisture in the space.
✔ Your power bill does not match the system's rated efficiency. If a system is working harder than it should due to incorrect sizing, its real-world running cost will not reflect the energy rating on the label.
Getting sizing right from the start is significantly cheaper than replacing a system that was never right for the space.
