🥬🌼🌷🌱🌸 A bit of action with while the team transformed an unused corner of a client’s backyard into a productive and colourful garden space!

It was great to be invited back to this client’s home to install a couple of raised garden beds and bring a previously underutilised area to life.

The site presented some interesting planting considerations, being south-west facing with afternoon sun during summer but reduced light levels through winter. With that in mind, plant selection focused on species that can perform well in lower-light conditions while still providing a productive harvest.

One garden bed has been planted with seasonal colour for an immediate splash of brightness, while the second has been established as a kitchen garden featuring parsley, chives, coriander, spinach and rocket.

We also included some white violas, which not only add colour but can help distract cabbage moths away from leafy greens.

The fence line also presents an opportunity for future vertical growing, allowing climbing crops to be incorporated into the space.

A great example of how even a small “dead zone” can be transformed into a productive and attractive garden space 🥬🌼🌷🌱🌸

We’re proud to support the City of Busselton in protecting and restoring these important coastal and environmental areas for the community to enjoy.

Disappointingly, we’ve had to report a number of vandalism incidents within areas we actively maintain and work in. Damage to revegetation, infrastructure and protective measures not only impacts the environment, but also the significant time, effort and public funding invested into these spaces.

We encourage everyone to help look after these areas and report vandalism or suspicious behaviour where possible. Respecting these spaces helps ensure they remain healthy, safe and accessible for current and future generations🌱🌊

Signage has been installed along Geographe Bay Road in Geographe following the intentional damage of native vegetation on City-managed land.

The removal or damage of vegetation on City land, including foreshore areas, is strictly prohibited and may result in prosecution.

Protecting our coastal vegetation is important for preserving the natural environment, preventing erosion and maintaining habitat for local wildlife.

If you have any information regarding this incident or any acts of vandalism on City managed land, please contact the City of Busselton:

The City will undertake rehabilitation. The affected area will naturally recover over time and the view will be restored once the vegetation has re-established.

Stacey & Maybel soaking up the autumn sun and inspiration at the 2026 🌿

What a fantastic day out!

Huge kudos to all the exhibitors and the teams behind the show gardens — the creativity and detail this year were next level!

A few highlights for me:
🌼Rolling Hills .garden.perspective – absolutely loved the planting palette
🌼Yellow Submarine – such a cohesive colour scheme and feel to the story of the garden
🌼Freakazoids – the sculpture planting was brilliant and was a brilliant add for garden dimension

The tent itself was a standout show garden — a great use of purple and maroon plant varieties, complemented by the green wall by .solutions , which was a real visual highlight and a fantastic example of how vertical planting can transform a space 💜💚

Another display I loved was inside the domed tent by — the layered mix of galvabond (silver) and Redcor (rust) planters around the platypus water feature was such a standout detail — and even better to learn, it’s all 100% Aussie made 🇦🇺

I was also really intrigued by some of the innovation on display at Stand 85 – Plants of the Future — particularly and the Wild Plants Biodiversity Genomics team.

are exploring the challenges of growing in outer space, developing fast-growing, zero-waste, ‘pick & eat’ plant varieties.

Even closer to home, the biodiversity genomics team working on kangaroo paws shared how they’re using advanced tools to predict which varieties will thrive in future climates — meaning tougher, more reliable KPs in a wider range of colours and forms for our gardens in future!

A couple of plants on my homework list (new ones for me!) - Impereta “Japanese Blood Grass” and Radermachera “Summer Scent”

Such a great mix of creativity, practicality, and forward-thinking ideas all around. Already looking forward to next year 🙌 Thanks to all those involved in putting on a great event for garden lovers!

Thinking of replacing that tired thirsty lawn with eco friendly native verge garden?

This month we're featuring a few low growing, colourful native plants in a range foliage, form and flower colours.

They're suitable for verge gardens, native cottage style gardens and general domestic landscaping. Once established, they all have low water requirements.

This is Orthrosanthus polystachys (Morning Iris) Clumpy growth habit, glossy foliage,( ½ m X ½ m ) Blue/purple flowers (mornings only) on slender stems (to 700 m) and shade tolerant. Perfect substitute for Agapanthus.
