I can give you a couple of reason for more studies to be done before mass clearing of old growth.
Small hollows (suitable for insects, small birds, and microbats): 30–100 years
Medium hollows (for parrots, owls, and possums): 100–200 years
Large hollows (for large cockatoos, gliders, and owls): 200+ years.

This is one of the most important things I’ve seen in a while. .peeters wow.. πŸ™πŸΌ thank you πŸ™πŸΌ

The care takers of this land the Bundjalung mob call these lil things jirwururahwra! Know for their sugar, sap and pollen addiction these little guys glide through the jali (tree) tops of Eucalyptus and Corymbia forests and sleep all together when they can!
Knowing this, it’s so important if you ever get nest boxes installed to get Regular maintenance to make sure we keep things safe for our mob jirwururahwra!
I hope I got my words right I am still learning. What a privilege it’s been.

A big thank-you to the Minyumai Rangers from the Minyumai IPA for allowing me to work on their Country, with Wildbnb Wildlife Habitat, and do what I love for a better understanding of trees, hollows and their inhabitants.

There is so much to learn and understand from the traditional owners including the importance of controlled and cultural fire as a land management practice.

This is the tip of the iceberg for me and I look forward to learning more from the vibrant team of people determined to better understand the impacts of climate change on threatened species.

This post-fire research and recovery project, supported by Saving-our-Species (NSW DPE), WWF-Australia and Southern Cross University, is generating the knowledge and understanding to create resilient habitat for threatened arboreal marsupials, including the Squirrel Glider, Brush-tailed Phascogale and Yellow-footed Antichinus.
