Introducing the Cromer Passive House. 🏗️

Over the coming months we're working on a full knockdown rebuild on the Northern Beaches, from tired old home to certified passive house. We'll be sharing the process, the decisions, the building science, and the honest reality of what it takes to build a home this way.

This site had an old asbestos home on it which was tired and hot. So hot that when our client was pregnant, she'd cruise the shops instead of coming home in summer to escape the heat.

That's not a simple fix. That's a fundamental building performance problem.

The bones weren't good enough for a retrofit, so we knocked it down. Properly, cleanly and safely.

Sometimes the most sustainable thing you can do is build one really good house instead of patching up a bad one forever.

This Manly kitchen renovation was a proper transformation, windows updated, floors levelled, architraves stripped back and modernised to a square set window detail. All the behind-the-scenes stuff that lets a kitchen like this shine.

The beautiful design work is all — we just made sure the bones were good enough to hold it.

A love letter to the Australian home. 💌

Dear single-glazed windows, thanks for nothing. You provide almost no thermal barrier whatsoever.

Dear ducted heating, we respect your effort, but running constantly to just lose half your output through the ceiling?

Dear gaps around every door frame, you really do let any Riff Raff in, even the cold, well especially the cold.

Australia, we love our homes, we just think they could perform better. A LOT better.

That's exactly what RetroPhit month is all about - taking the homes we've already got and printing them up to passive house performance. Airtight, Well insulated, Properly ventilated. Built to handle our climate instead of fighting it. 🏡🌿

Let's clear something up: Passive House isn't just for new builds.

Australia's exisiting home are... characterful, draughty, single glazed. Build@in an era when "insulation" meant a thick jumper.

But the thing is, GOOD BONES CAN LEARN NEW TRICKS 🏡🐶🦴
