We love a clever design and this sure is a goodie! Via the amazing team at ... and if you're wondering about compliance, the team cut out a section of the floorboards in front of the fireplace place and installed a compliant, non combustible surface. We love it!

Episode two of our Longfield tour, and this time we’re heading into the main bathroom… and it is every bit as beautiful as the rest of this home.

Longfield belongs to our gorgeous friend who spent years restoring this incredible old home in the Byron hinterland with so much care and respect for its history. You can follow the full journey over at .

The bathroom is such a perfect example of what makes this house so special — character, texture and beautiful old-world details, all brought together in a way that still feels completely relaxed and liveable.

Come inside for episode two as we take you through the main bathroom and all the little details we love.

Ready for a seriously gorgeous house tour?

Welcome to Longfield and episode one of our tour through this very special home in the Byron hinterland.

Longfield belongs to our beautiful friend @, who spent years painstakingly restoring what was once a crumbling old gem and bringing it back to life with so much care, patience and respect for its history. Checkout her insta for the project:

We came into the project towards the end to help with the decorating, layering and those final finishing touches that make a house really start to feel like home.

And honestly… there is so much to show you.

Come inside for episode one. We can’t wait to take you through it.

Ever wanted to peek inside a designer’s camera roll?

Consider this your invitation.

We’re constantly screenshotting, saving and sending each other things we spot… details we love, materials we want to remember, ideas that make us stop scrolling and immediately think where is that from?

And lately? Tiles. So many tiles.

So we’ve gone through the screenshots and pulled together some of the tiles currently living rent-free in our phones.

The covers are coming off… outdoor season is officially on its way. ☀️ There’s something about that first stretch of warm weather that makes you want to throw the doors open, pull everyone outside and start thinking about long lunches that somehow turn into dinner.

So we’ve curated a little Garden Party Edit in our latest Little Black Book …mix of outdoor furniture, lighting, serving pieces, planters and beautiful things for entertaining outside.

Our 130+ page Little Black Book is packed with outdoor design inspiration, Australian furniture brands, garden finds, homewares, lighting, materials and suppliers we think are worth knowing.

Mel’s non-negotiables when it comes to good design? No real surprises here…

Natural light.
Connection to nature.
And finding every opportunity to bring the outside in either through that connection or through use of natural materials.

Good design isn’t just about how a home looks…it’s about how it feels to live in. Where the light falls throughout the day. The view you catch from the kitchen. The doors that open onto the garden. The materials, planting and landscape that make inside and outside feel like one continuous space.

Trends come and go, but these are the things we’ll come back to every single time. What’s your design non-negotiable?

Emerging designers, if your projects are currently living across email threads, screenshots, notes, spreadsheets and approximately 47 open tabs… this one’s for you.

We’ve been using Project Studio by to help us visualise and pull together the design direction for Banksia House - bringing products, finishes, furniture and ideas into one place so we can see how everything is working together before decisions are locked in.

It’s particularly useful when you’re juggling multiple rooms, suppliers and selections and need somewhere to actually see the project as a whole rather than trying to hold it all in your head.

And for emerging designers building out their own processes? It’s free to use. Because good systems don’t just make you more organised, they give you more space to actually design.

Save this one for your next project. x

What is one thing you saved money on in your renovation and don’t regret?

The flatpack laundry that works perfectly? The affordable tile that looks far more expensive than it was? The light fitting you found on sale? The room you painted yourself? The second-hand piece that ended up being the hero?

Sometimes the smartest choices are the ones where you save money, stay practical, and still love the result every day.

If a designer is explaining something and their hands aren’t involved… something is very, very wrong.

Apparently no design concept can be communicated without at least one invisible rectangle being drawn in the air.

It’s not talking with our hands. It’s a highly technical visual communication system, obviously.
