Another big week wrapped up for the Willis Electrical QLD team ✅⚡️

This week we completed essential upgrades and installations across multiple properties and commercial sites, keeping our customers safe, secure, and powered up.

🏡 Job 1:
• Replaced a rotten property pole to ensure long-term safety and reliability
• Installed a second pole to raise overhead mains to the correct legal height above surrounding houses

🏡 Job 2:
• Responded to an Energex defect issued for a rotten pole
• Installed a brand-new steel pole
• Re-ran mains underground for a cleaner, safer and future-proof supply

🏢 Commercial Works:
• Completed a large commercial CCTV installation for improved site security and monitoring
• Installed high-output lighting to transform a truck loading area for night operations — turning it into daylight and boosting safety & efficiency

🚨 Queenslanders, urgent safety alert! 🚨
Your home must meet strict smoke alarm standards — and many are still not compliant. Don’t risk it!

✅ What your home needs RIGHT NOW:
• Photoelectric alarms only (AS 3786‑2014)—no ionisation units allowed  
• Interconnected so if one detects smoke, they all go off together 
• Be hard‑wired with battery backup, or use a sealed 10‑year battery 

🏠 Where they must be installed:
• On every level
• In each bedroom
• In hallways leading from bedrooms, or if there’s no hallway, between sleeping and living areas  

⏰ Deadlines:
• Since 1 Jan 2017: required in new or substantially renovated homes 
• Since 1 Jan 2022: mandatory in all homes sold, rented, or lease‑renewed 
• Final deadline for all Queensland homes: 1 Jan 2027 

🔧 For landlords & tenants:
• Landlords must install & test alarms within 30 days before a new tenancy starts 
• Tenants must clean and test them at least once a year and report any faults 

⚠️ Why it matters:
• Photoelectric alarms detect smouldering fires early—when most deadly fires start 
• Interconnected alarms give EVERYONE time to escape, even if the fire starts upstairs or in a closed room 

✅ Check your alarms today:
1. Are they photoelectric and under 10 years old?
2. Are they interconnected?
3. Are they installed in the correct spots?

Need help? A licensed electrician can install hard‑wired units, or you can buy 10‑year sealed battery alarms yourself. Just make sure they meet AS 3786‑2014 and interconnect!

Don’t delay — your home’s countdown is on!
