Plastec is deeply saddened to announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our founder and director, Sydney (Syd) Hawthorne.

In 1992, as a dedicated plumbing TAFE teacher, Syd invented the Quick Clip—a revolutionary product that transformed the way hot and cold pipe systems were secured. With this innovation, Plastec was born and has since grown into one of Australia’s largest plumbing manufacturers and distributors.

Syd’s fingerprints can be found on more than 2,500 products developed at Plastec over the past 33 years. A tenacious entrepreneur who migrated from Ireland to Australia, his can-do attitude and willingness to take risks were the driving forces behind Plastec’s success. With an unwavering passion for improving the plumbing industry and a keen eye for innovation, Syd will always be remembered for the unique products he brought to the market.

Plastec will remain a proud, family-owned Australian business, and Syd’s legacy will live on through the dedicated staff who continue his vision.
