❄️ What a weekend! ❄️

Our plumbers were flat out attending to over 11 burst pipe emergencies caused by the heavy frost across Canberra this weekend. One vacant home, about to go on the market, suffered major water damage after pipes burst in the ceiling — a devastating (and costly) surprise for the owners.

We also saw multiple evaporative coolers that hadn’t been winterised properly. If these aren’t turned off and drained, they can easily freeze and burst pipes too.

💧 A quick winter reminder:
If you're not living in your property this Canberra winter:
✔️ Turn off the water supply at the main
✔️ Open a garden tap to relieve any built-up pressure
✔️ Isolate and drain your evap cooler – you won’t be needing it for a while!

🚽💛 How a Toilet Changed Everything 💛🚽

We’re proud to share something a little different from the day-to-day plumbing we do here in Canberra.

Between Christmas 2024 and February 2025, Water Tight Canberra joined as a major sponsor of the Maasai Mammas Toilet & Washroom Project in Amboseli, Kenya.

Led by the incredible team at Urban Rewild and the unstoppable Sharlene Cohen, this project delivered:
✅ A flushing toilet (a first for the community)
✅ Private, fully tiled washrooms
✅ Solar lighting for safety at night
✅ A 2,500L water tank
✅ A bold conservation mural — painted with local pride

For the women and children in this Manyatta, this isn’t just plumbing. It’s dignity. It’s safety. It’s life-changing.

Tree roots might look harmless above ground, but beneath the surface, they’re silently invading your drain pipes 🌳➡️🛠️ As they grow, they sneak into cracks, expand, and create major blockages that can lead to overflowing stormwater, sewage backups, and costly repairs.

💧 Prevention is ALWAYS cheaper than emergency repairs! If you continually have blocked drains, get in touch with us about a Drain Clearing Preventative Maintenance Plan - we'll clear the drain, then use a CCTV camera to inspect what's going on. Do this twice per year as part of our plan to identify any breakages/collapsed pipes and keep your plumbing flowing smoothly. So, keep an eye out for:

🎉🐾 Biscuit’s 1st Anniversary at the Office! 🐾🎉

It’s hard to believe it's already been a whole year since I (Biscuit, the official Customer Relations Dog) joined the team. In that time, I’ve sniffed out all the best snacks, fetched countless emails (just kidding, I don’t read them, but I do love to paw at the keyboard), and provided endless support with pats and puppy eyes.

Here’s a recap of my year:

🦴 Treats eaten: Too many to count. I also enjoy trying others lunch if I can get to it!
🐕 Office meetings attended: Every single one. No one can resist my charm, and hey, I do love the attention.
💤 Naps taken: Many. Usually under your desk at your feet
🐾 Customer Relations Excellence: 10/10. I have yet to bark at a customer. It’s called professionalism, people.

Big thanks to the team for letting me be your furry, lovable distraction when the work gets tough (or when you're just looking for a reason to pet something). I’m excited for another year of cuddles, snacks, and keeping the office paws-itively productive!
