🌱 Tree care tip: Timing your pruning correctly can make a big difference to your tree's health and recovery.
For most deciduous trees in the ACT, late winter or early spring — just before new growth begins — is the ideal pruning window. At this time of year, trees are still dormant, which means:
🌿 Wounds heal faster as growth kicks off
🐛 There are fewer active pests and disease spores to enter fresh cuts
🌸 You can clearly see the structure of the tree without foliage in the way
For natives like eucalypts and wattles, it's often better to prune after flowering so you don't remove the season's blooms before they open.
Evergreen trees can generally be pruned year-round, though avoiding the hottest and driest summer months will reduce stress on the tree.
