Client rang this morning. Burning smell coming from the meter box.
Found a ceramic fuse that had been overheating. Scorch marks on the panel behind it. That board has been running the whole house on fuses with no safety switch protection.
Talked the client through what safety switches actually do, got the go ahead, and had the new board in the same day. New main earth while we were there too.
If you can smell anything from your switchboard, turn the main switch off and call someone. A burning smell is not something that settles down on its own.

Saturday morning. Phone rings. No power to the house and a burning smell in the meter box.

The main switch had melted clean off the board. That is the switch every single circuit in the house runs through.

Old board out, new one in, safety switch on every circuit. Power back on the same day.

If your board is buzzing, warm to touch, or tripping for no reason, get someone to look at it. It does not fix itself.

Another Zappi in a Canberra garage.

The Zappi isn’t just a fast charger. It can watch what your solar is exporting and divert it into the car, so you’re charging on power you’d otherwise be selling back to the grid for cents. If you’ve got panels and an EV and you’re not doing this, you’re leaving money on the roof.

Dedicated circuit, isolator at the unit, all done to standard and tested before we leave.

Thinking about a home charger? DM us, we’ll tell you straight what your switchboard can handle before you buy anything.

The old fuse board couldn’t do anything about it. Ceramic fuses, no safety switches, likely original to the house. Fuse wire protects cables, not people.

We stripped it out and fitted a new switchboard with safety switches on every circuit. Faults that would have kept burning on the old gear now trip in milliseconds.

Two takeaways from this one. If your board still runs ceramic fuses, it’s overdue. And bin the cheap powerboards, they’re behind more house fires than most people realise.

DM us to book a switchboard check.

This switchboard had no labels and RCD protection on only 2 circuits. Once the client saw what he was working with he didn’t hesitate. Full upgrade, every circuit protected, properly labelled and brought up to current standards. Shoutout for the clutch same day delivery 🤙
