How do you actually size a home battery properly?

Most online calculators ask three questions: average daily kWh, postcode, and budget. Then they pick a number.

The problem: that approach treats every household the same, despite real households having radically different consumption shapes - when energy is used, what appliances drive the peaks, how the household will change over the next 5 years.

Get the sizing wrong and the battery is either oversized (slow payback) or undersized (frequent imports at peak tariffs). Both outcomes erode the customer's confidence in the technology.

This is the problem our new $1.93M ARC Linkage research project with Curtin University is built to solve.
