🚨 Huge Update 🚨

🤥

01/06/2026

Well… that’s not good. 😬

Switchboard at a unit block in Birkdale. Someone’s run a bead of silicone over the top to keep the water out — but it’s just pooling up there and dripping straight into the board.

A smear of silicone isn’t a fix. Water sitting on or in your switchboard doesn’t end well.

🚨 Landlords 🚨

The cheapest way to cut maintenance callbacks is to deal with the problem before a tenant moves in.

Spent the day in Wellington Point getting a property rental-ready — pulled out all the old lighting and fans and replaced them with new LED fittings and ceiling fans throughout.

Old fittings and tired fans are the jobs that come back to bite you: globes constantly blowing, fans getting noisy, after-hours calls from tenants.

New LEDs last years and draw a fraction of the power, and modern fans just keep running.
Less maintenance, fewer callbacks, lower running costs — and the place shows a lot better on inspection

It’s a small spend up front that pays for itself, no brainer.

If you’ve got a place going on the rental market in the Redlands or Bayside, we’d love to help

Genuine question for any sparkies reading this: Would you leave a brand new fit out like this?😢

We were called in to fix it. Power and data cable adhesive-clipped to glass, an extension lead running through a ceiling instead of just installing a GPO , no containment, no mechanical protection.
Whoever did it knew it wasn't right, or maybe they didn’t- I don’t know tbh.

BUT

Last three photos are how we left it. Conduit run up the umbilical properly, contained from the outlet right through to the ceiling cavity. It's not particularly difficult or flashy work - it's just correct work.

If you’re looking for work done correctly- the first time, as it f$&! should be.

Call us, it’s just easier

Got a call on Monday - Energex had disconnected power to a property in Birkdale and the customer was left to get the kids ready for school with no power, no toaster for breakfast, no hot water for showers, no power to the garage door, absolute nightmare fuel 😧

When we turned we found the consumer mains were damaged. Direct short between active and neutral. No wonder Energex pulled the pin.

While we were replacing the mains, we had a look at the switchboard and flagged it was getting close to needing an upgrade (old outdated circuit protection, fuses, etc.)

Turned out the customer had renos planned in a couple of months and knew the board was going to need doing anyway — so we sorted it all in one hit.

Power back on. New mains in. Board ready for the renovation works ahead. One trip, one bill, no second shutdown down the track.
If Energex has knocked your power off, or your board is looking tired before a reno, give us a bell.

Not gonna bother with plates anymore- just stick it to the tile glue😂

Full electrical refresh on a Redlands home:
→ 7 new fan/light combos installed (including one on an extension rod for high ceilings)
→ Switches and mechs swapped throughout
→ Rewired the master bedroom fan/light - removed old two-way wiring and ran a fresh cable for clean operation
→ 2x Tastic 3-in-1s installed with new SDI cable runs to the bathrooms
→ 9 interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms installed

If your smoke alarms aren't interconnected and photoelectric yet, you're not compliant — and time's running out. Happy to come through and sort it.

Property managers — this one's for you.

Called out to a rental in Victoria Point this week. Tenant reported the bathroom exhaust fan was making a grinding noise.

Cause?

Fragments of broken roof tile sitting inside the motor, left behind from a roof restoration months earlier.

Motor was beyond repair. Replaced the unit, tested, reported back to the PM, job done.

We work with property managers across the Redlands and Bayside on:

→ Tenant callouts (same/next day)

→ Smoke alarm compliance

→ Safety switch testing

→ Switchboard upgrades

→ Pre-lease electrical checks

Clear reports, fixed pricing where possible, and we deal direct with tenants so you don't have

Turns out I’ve been doing this electrical thing all wrong the whole time 🤦‍♂️
Shouldn’t have been wasting money and time on using correct connectors — when I could’ve just been twisting the cables together and holding it all in place with sticky tape, hopes and dreams.

Found this gem behind a light switch today. Client called because the lights weren’t working. Can’t imagine why.

May seem like a genius way to save a bit of money using sticky tape, but loose joints arc, heat up, and start fires.

If you’ve moved into a place and something’s not quite right with the power, get a licensed sparky to take a look before it becomes a much bigger problem.
