🌧️ WET WEATHER? NO WORRIES! 🐜🏡

With all this wet weather around, we wanted to reassure our customers that it’s still business as usual at Pestlinc!

Rain doesn’t necessarily mean your pest control or termite inspection needs to be postponed!

✅ Internal Treatments: We can still carry out internal services as scheduled, taking extra precautions to protect your home. Our technicians use boot covers and towels to ensure wet footwear and equipment, including ladders, are wiped down before entering.

✅ External Treatments: Weather conditions will be assessed on-site to determine whether treatments can be carried out safely and effectively. If the rain prevents us from completing any external work, we’ll arrange a suitable time to return.

🐜 Did you know wet weather can actually be beneficial during a termite inspection?

While rain can sometimes limit certain areas of an inspection, it can also reveal important issues that may otherwise go unnoticed on a dry day!

Wet conditions can help our technicians identify poor drainage, water pooling, potential leaks and other moisture concerns around your property.

These conditions are particularly important because excess moisture can create an environment that attracts termites and increases the risk of termite activity.

Being able to identify these concerns during wet weather allows us to provide valuable advice on areas that may need attention to help reduce the risk of future termite problems.

💚 A little understanding goes a long way!

As a small, locally owned business, postponing appointments due to wet weather can have a significant impact on our daily operations and scheduling. Wherever possible, we’d much rather complete part of your service than have to postpone the entire appointment.

We understand that having a service completed over two visits may be a little inconvenient at times, but we genuinely appreciate your patience, flexibility and willingness to work with us while we navigate the unpredictable weather.

🐍 Just another glamorous day in pest control… 😱🤣

People think pest control is all spraying a few bugs and checking for termites… but sometimes the job comes with a little SURPRISE! 🐍

Lincoln opened a termite monitoring station today expecting to find termites.

Instead, he came face-to-face with an Eastern Small-eyed Snake (Cryptophis nigrescens) — a dangerously venomous little visitor who had apparently decided our termite station made the perfect hiding spot. 😬

Thankfully, they’re generally shy and nocturnal…

Unfortunately, nobody told Lincoln that before he lifted the lid. 🤣🤣

We won’t say he screamed… but there may have been a small squeal, a sudden backwards movement and a heart rate that briefly entered Olympic territory. 😂💨❤️

The snake was left well alone, Lincoln survived the encounter, and after his heart restarted, it was back to work!

🐜 Termites? No worries.
🪳 Cockroaches? Easy.
🕷️ Spiders? All good.
🐍 Surprise venomous snake under the lid? NOT IN THE JOB DESCRIPTION! 😱🤣

Ever wondered how we protect a home without tearing up the garden or drilling into the concrete? 🏠

German or American cockroach? 🪳

If it's small (about the size of your fingernail) and light brown with two dark stripes, that's German, and it means an indoor infestation. If it's big (thumb-sized), reddish-brown with a pale yellow figure-8 marking on its head, that's American, usually coming in from drains or under the house.

When ants move into an electrical cabinet, the treatment needs to be careful. 🐜

Richard was called out to a Southport property this week where ants had taken over a couple of storage rooms. They'd made their way through the wall linings, into the ceiling area, and right into an electrical cabinet where they were actively nesting. Take a look at the photos and you'll see just how densely they'd colonised around that box.

Because of the proximity to live electrics and stored items like clothing and towels, Richard kept liquid chemical use minimal, applying it only inside the wall cavity. On the exterior surfaces he used two different gel baits to reduce any risk of chemical contact with the electricals or stored goods. Both gels are already attracting feeding activity, which is a good sign for getting colony elimination happening relatively quickly. A follow-up visit is already booked in a few weeks to check progress.

Know what these dark smear marks mean? 🐀

They're rodent rub marks, left behind by rats moving along floor joists and beams under a home. The oils in their skin and fur build up over time on the timber, and they're one of the clearest signs that rats have been making themselves at home in your subfloor.

Lincoln spotted these on a recent job in Birkdale. The property was located next to land that had been cleared, and that's a really common trigger for rodent activity. Once a nearby block gets cleared, it disturbs burrows and shelters, and rats start looking for somewhere new to set up. Your home, with its subfloor cavities, warmth, and any clutter or storage nearby, is exactly what they're after. And it doesn't take much of a gap either. A space roughly the size of your thumb is enough for a rat to squeeze through and start moving around.
