Hawthorn West Primary School – Block A Refurbishment & Extension

Stokes Rousseau was engaged to deliver the refurbishment and extension of Block A at Hawthorn West Primary School, one of Victoria’s oldest educational institutions, established in 1853.

The heritage-listed, double-storey brick building underwent a significant transformation to meet modern accessibility and educational standards while respecting its historic character.

Works included heritage façade and roofing conservation, alongside internal upgrades such as new flooring, enhanced lighting, upgraded ceilings, and classroom modifications to improve functionality and comfort. The mechanical systems were also replaced to boost energy efficiency and climate control.

A new extension was added, incorporating a fully accessible amenities block, lift, and stairwell, dramatically improving access throughout the building.

Stokes Rousseau’s delivery balanced heritage sensitivity with practical upgrades, helping the school honour its legacy while creating an inclusive, future-ready environment for students and staff.

Ian Potter Museum – Heritage Façade & Landscape Remediation

Stokes Rousseau was engaged to deliver heritage façade remediation, chimney cap restoration, cultural rubble conservation, and extensive entry landscaping works for the rejuvenated Ian Potter Museum.

The project involved the careful restoration of the heritage-listed building, including masonry repointing, stone replacement, and lintel remediation to ensure long-term structural stability and historical accuracy. Surrounding the building, major civil and landscape works were undertaken, including the construction of a structural pedestrian bridge and the integration of soft landscaping with sustainable plantings and architectural design elements to enhance the museum’s entrance.

Conservation of the cultural rubble along the Swanston Street façade involved structural reinforcement and delicate sculptural restoration, preserving the integrity of the museum’s cultural and artistic significance.

With a focus on longevity, sensitivity, and function, Stokes Rousseau continues to support the enhancement of civic spaces through technically complex and architecturally considered work.

We’re fundraising for to support people affected by upper gastrointestinal cancers; including pancreatic, liver, stomach, biliary, and oesophageal cancers.

Earlier this year, we lost our Director and friend Luke to pancreatic cancer. Luke spoke fondly of Pancare and the incredible support they provided to him and his family.

On Sunday 16th, our team will be walking around Princes Park to raise awareness and funds for Pancare.

St Vincent's Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) Upgrade

Stokes Rousseau successfully delivered the upgrade of the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), one of the hospital’s most critical and high-traffic departments.

The project was completed in full compliance with the latest Australian Health Facility Guidelines and AS 4187 standards, which govern the sterilisation and reprocessing of reusable medical devices.

Given the CSSD’s essential role in supporting surgical procedures, maintaining full operational capacity during construction was non-negotiable. Works were meticulously staged to minimise disruption, with construction activities carried out in parallel with day-to-day hospital operations.

Strict infection control protocols were implemented throughout the build to uphold sterile conditions and ensure patient safety.

St Vincent's Werribee Day Infusion and Operating Theatre.

Stokes Rousseau was engaged to deliver the fit-out and commissioning of a new state-of-the-art operating theatre and day infusion clinic within a live hospital environment.

The project involves complex service infrastructure upgrades, carried out under strict infection control protocols to ensure uninterrupted operation of adjacent critical care areas.

Key elements of the project include the installation of large-scale mechanical systems with advanced air filtration, electrical upgrades including new switchboards to support high-demand medical equipment, and enhancements to hydraulic and medical gas services. Works are being staged with precision to ensure the hospital remains fully operational throughout.

Royal Exhibition Building Mural Protection and Building Monitoring.

Stokes Rousseau was engaged to implement urgent conservation measures to safeguard the building’s historically significant interior murals, which date back to the 1901 opening of the first Australian Parliament. These murals, delicate and irreplaceable, required immediate protection from environmental risks.

With its origins rooted in Melbourne’s cultural and architectural legacy, the Royal Exhibition Building was constructed for the 1880 Melbourne International Exhibition and remains one of the world’s oldest surviving exhibition pavilions. Now recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage-listed site, it stands as a symbol of national pride and a remarkable example of Victorian-era grandeur.

The scope of work included the design and installation of environmental monitoring systems to track weather conditions, vibration levels, and humidity, all essential factors in the long-term preservation of the artwork. This proactive conservation approach ensures that these historic murals can be enjoyed by future generations, while maintaining the architectural integrity of one of Australia’s most treasured public buildings.

Stokes Rousseau is excited to be on-site at Mornington Special Development School 🏫 🛠️🏗️

We are actively engaged to transform its facilities, replacing outdated portable classrooms with a permanent modern, single-story building. This project, completed in three phases, will ensure the school remains operational at all times.
The design will house a versatile mix of spaces, including upgraded classrooms, multipurpose rooms, and improved staff amenities such as offices, a reception area, and staff lounges. It also features enhanced outdoor spaces including landscaping, a sports court, sandpits, shade sails, and play equipment, creating a vibrant and functional learning environment for all.

St Patrick’s Primary School | 🏫🛠️

The recently completed project works involved the structural and non-structural demolition of existing internal and external areas to transform and feature six internally refurbished modern learning spaces, two versatile breakout rooms, installation of a DDA lift and upgraded amenities for students, teachers and staff.

There was also significant excavation works completed to create an amphitheatre-style tiered courtyard with a new shade structure, DDA ramps to provide accessibility to a functional and welcoming outdoor learning environment.

This project exemplifies our commitment to creating educational spaces that inspire and support learning for many years to come.

St Francis Catholic College |
C O M P L E T E D P R O J E C T ✅

We are proud to share the works at St Francis Catholic College, formally Catholic Regional College. The project consisted of partial demolition of the existing Gadal building and the extension and construction of a new single level STEAM learning classroom. The works transformed the building to provide a state of the art learning environment for the students, including 3D printers, green rooms and undercover project yards.

Further to the STEAM extension, the project also saw the refurbishment of the staff building. This included internal strip out works and structural modifications to add new meeting spaces and upgrade the staff kitchen areas.

🌟 Volunteering Day 🌟
Some of our awesome team recently put away their tools and laptops to give back to the community.

We spent the day and helped contribute to hundreds of meals destined for those doing it tough in our community. Our time was filled in their new kitchen in Abbotsford chopping 290 kg of vegetables and opening and decanting 92 kg of sauces to put together the meals which are in a huge demand at the moment due to cost of living pressures and the ongoing impact of natural disasters.

Hunger in our communities has been reduced and health improved because of our contribution.
We are feeling rewarded to know we are making such a difference to so many people’s lives.
