One of the details Dany really wanted to preserve at the family home project was the original ceiling feature.

The team carefully removed the detail in a single piece so it could later be reinstated into one of the bedrooms once construction progresses further.

Being able to approach restoration work this way comes from years of experience working on older homes - understanding how they were originally built, how materials behave over time and how to carefully preserve character details wherever possible ⚒️👷

Restoring older homes often comes with difficult decisions behind the scenes - balancing what can realistically be saved, what needs replacing and how to maintain the character of the home without compromising the overall build quality.

At the family home project, Dany chats through the decision to sacrifice the original cornices after assessing the condition and restoration complexity. Rather than forcing a repair that may not hold up long term, he’s working closely with the plasterer to explore what can still be retained and where introducing new cornices may create a cleaner, more cohesive result.

A big part of renovating older homes is knowing where to preserve original details and where practical construction decisions need to step in to support the longevity of the home moving forward.
