WET WEATHER ELECTRICAL SAFETY WARNING ⚠️ 🌧️

With the ongoing heavy rain across Brisbane, we are seeing an increase in nuisance tripping and moisture-related electrical faults.

If your safety switches (RCDs), breakers or circuits are tripping during this weather, please DO NOT continue repeatedly resetting them. ⚡️

In many cases, the cause is likely moisture or water ingress into:
• Outdoor power points
• Light fittings
• Switches
• Air conditioning isolators
• Solar equipment
• External electrical circuits

Attempting to continually turn circuits back on while they are still wet can potentially worsen damage and create a serious electrical safety risk.

✅ Our recommendation:
• Leave the affected circuit OFF
• Wait until weather conditions improve and equipment has had time to dry out
• Then attempt ONE reset only once conditions are safe and dry
• If the circuit continues tripping, arrange inspection by a licensed electrician

Our team at Sparc Electrical & Airconditioning will have technicians on standby over the coming days once the weather settles to assist homeowners, tenants and businesses with storm-related electrical faults.

Please stay safe and never attempt DIY electrical repairs during wet weather. 🌧️

🚨 If your aircon is starting to look like this… it’s definitely time for a service 😳❄️

We recently attended a property after concerns the air conditioning system wasn’t performing properly.
Once we opened the unit, it quickly became clear why… 👀

Inside the system we found:
❌ Heavy build-up of dirt and dust
❌ Feathers and debris blocking airflow
❌ Coils heavily contaminated
❌ Filters overdue for cleaning
❌ Restricted airflow forcing the system to work overtime

A build-up like this doesn’t just affect performance it can also:
⚠️ Reduce efficiency
⚠️ Increase power bills
⚠️ Impact air quality
⚠️ Lead to costly breakdowns if left too long

The reality is, most people don’t realise what’s hiding inside their air conditioning system until it’s opened up 😅

Regular servicing helps keep your system running efficiently, improves airflow, extends the lifespan of the unit, and helps maintain cleaner air throughout your home or business ❄️

Don’t wait until it gets this bad 👀

Call Sparc Electrical & Airconditioning for your next aircon service!

🚨 QLD SMOKE ALARM LAWS CHANGE IN 2027 🚨

A lot of homes across Queensland still won’t meet the new smoke alarm laws coming into effect by 1 January 2027.

If your home still has the old style alarms, there’s a good chance it’s non-compliant.

The new laws require:
✔ Photoelectric smoke alarms
✔ Interconnected alarms (when one sounds, they all sound)
✔ Smoke alarms in every bedroom
✔ Smoke alarms in hallways and on every level of the home

This isn’t just about compliance it’s about giving your family the best chance in the event of a fire.

We’ve already started helping homeowners, landlords and real estates upgrade systems now before the rush starts closer to 2027.

At Sparc Electrical & Airconditioning we supply and install compliant smoke alarm systems across Brisbane and the Redcliffe Peninsula.

If you’re unsure whether your home is compliant, send us a message and we can point you in the right direction 👍

Don’t leave it until the last minute! 💨

Something a lot of homeowners don't realise… Those halogen downlights in your ceiling?
They run hot. Really hot.
We're talking surface temperatures that can hit 300°C+.
And if there's insulation sitting on top of them — or anything flammable within reach — that's not just a performance issue, that's a fire risk.

It's one of those things that quietly sits in the background of a lot of older homes.
Nobody's told them. Nothing's gone wrong yet. So it doesn't feel urgent.
Until it is.

Here's what the upgrade looks like though:
✅ LED downlights run cool to the touch
✅ They use up to 75% less energy
✅ They last years longer
✅ And they actually look better too

It's one of those jobs that fixes a safety problem AND lowers your power bill at the same time.
Not many electrical upgrades can say that.
If your home's still running halogens — especially if you've got insulation in the ceiling — it's worth getting eyes on it.

Not because something's definitely wrong.
But because it's better to know.

We’ve fixed a string of issues lately where homeowners had no idea there was a problem sitting in their switchboard.

Loose connections.
Old breakers.
Burnt wiring.
Safety switches that weren’t working properly.

Most of the time, nothing “looks wrong” from the outside. The lights work, the power’s on, and everything seems fine.

But the switchboard is where everything in your home runs through — and when things start to wear out or loosen over time, that’s where problems begin.

Sometimes it’s as simple as tightening connections.
Sometimes it’s replacing a faulty breaker.
And occasionally it’s a sign the board needs upgrading.

The good news? These things are usually easy to pick up early with a quick check.

A healthy switchboard means:
✔️ safer power in your home
✔️ protection for your appliances
✔️ peace of mind for your family

If it’s been a while since anyone’s looked at yours, it might be worth getting it checked.

Better to catch the small things before they become big ones. 🔧⚡

⚠️ STOP SCROLLING — CAN YOU SPOT THE PROBLEM IN THIS METER BOX?

Take a close look at these photos 👀

This electrical meter panel is installed on a cork backing board, which was commonly used many years ago but is no longer compliant with modern electrical safety standards.

Because cork is a combustible material, it is not permitted behind electrical metering equipment under current Energex requirements.

In this case, the homeowners were given a Form 3 and advised by Energex that this installation must be upgraded to meet current standards.

What is required to bring this installation up to standard:

Installation of a New Compliant Meter Box
The existing setup must be replaced with a modern non-combustible meter enclosure and relocated to a compliant position as required under the Queensland Electricity Metering Manual (QEMM) and Queensland Electricity Connection Manual (QECM).

⚡ Upgrade of the Incoming Mains Supply
The property requires an upgrade to 16mm mains cable to safely support modern electrical demand.

🛡 Switchboard Safety Upgrade
The existing sub board must be upgraded with individual RCBO safety switches in accordance with AS/NZS 3000:2018.

This ensures:
✔ Each circuit has its own safety protection
✔ Reduced electrical fire risk
✔ Improved electrical safety for the home
✔ Compliance with current electrical standards

Why this matters

Many homes across Brisbane and the Redcliffe Peninsula still have electrical installations that are 30–40 years old.

These meter box and switchboard set ups were never designed for the electrical demand we use today, including:

• Air conditioning
• Solar systems
• EV charging
• Modern appliances

Upgrading ensures your home is safe, compliant and ready for modern electrical use.

⚡ If your meter box looks similar to this, it may be time for an inspection.

The team at Sparc Electrical & Air Conditioning can assess your installation and advise what may be required to bring it up to current standards.
