We’ve recently received a suspicious message claiming to be from Meta/Facebook, warning us about “violating intellectual property” and asking us to verify our account within 12 hours. This is 100% a scam!

🔴 DO NOT enter your login details
🔴 DO NOT respond to the message
🚫 How to Stay Safe:
✔️ Meta/Facebook will NEVER send verification requests through messages
✔️ Always check for official links ending in facebook.com or meta.com
✔️ Enable Two-Factor Authentication for extra security
✔️ Report suspicious messages to Facebook
If you receive a message like this, please be cautious and report it immediately. Stay safe online! 🔒


How Meta Communicates Officially
✅ Emails – If Meta needs to verify your account, they will email you from an official address like .com or .com. You can check the authenticity of emails in Facebook’s Security and Login settings under "Recent emails from Facebook."
✅ Notifications – Any important action required for your account will appear in your Facebook notifications, not in a random message from an unknown account.
✅ Business Suite / Account Settings – If your page or Business Account needs verification, you will be directed to handle it inside Meta Business Suite or Facebook's official settings.
What Facebook Will NEVER Do in a Message:
❌ Send a verification request via Facebook Messenger
❌ Ask you to click an external link for verification
❌ Threaten immediate suspension within hours
❌ Ask for your password or login credentials
If you get a message like this, it’s a scam! Report it to Facebook and ignore it.

Emergency Steps for Sewer Backups During Storms

If you hear gurgling in your drains or toilets, follow these steps immediately:

1. Seal the toilet – Place a sandbag inside the toilet bowl, close the lid, and then place another sandbag on top of the seat.
2. Secure it – Use duct tape to seal around the toilet seat to prevent sewage from backing up into your home.
3. Leave in place – Keep the seal until the Gold Coast City Council (GCCC) confirms the sewer system is functioning properly. This may take time if pump stations have lost power due to the storm.
