My Dad, Howard Garland, the original face behind Garland Design and the reason I am the person I am today 🤍
Two weeks ago I hugged Dad for the very last time. After saying goodbye to pieces of him painfully slowly over the last 16 years, he is finally free.
No more Alzheimer’s. No more pain.
A lot of people think I named the business Garland Design because Garland is my maiden name. The name actually has nothing to do with me and a whole lot to do with this incredible man I got to call Dad.
Dad worked as a Building Designer for 40 years, finally retiring in Noosa under the banner Garland Design about 17 years ago. I still remember that moment when I was a little girl and the realisation sank in... Dad gets paid to draw... that’s bloody genius! I never changed my opinion and the day I started my very own business there was no question as to what its name would be. To me, taking on the name Garland Design is an enormous privilege.
Dad was a visionary, always creating. He would build during the day and draw through the night. The sound of him scratching on the drawing board often putting me back to sleep as a child. Dad had an incredible mind that produced such beautiful work.
They say imitation is the highest form of flattery. Take one look at my life and you’ll see the apple hasn’t fallen far.

Dad, I’m proud to be your daughter and I’m so grateful I got to call you my Dad.
I love you. Forever and always 🤍
