You hear it a lot: “There are no opportunities out there for young people.”

We don’t quite agree.

There are real pathways into construction and the trades here in the Territory. Sometimes, the hardest part is knowing what’s out there and who to talk to.

That’s why our team were at the Northern Territory Indigenous Business Network BlakJobs Expo last week - alongside over 70 other exhibitors and nearly 400 students, teachers and coordinators.

Throughout the day, Suse had a steady stream of people stopping by to ask what DICE actually does, what apprenticeship and traineeship pathways are available, and how they could get their foot in the door.

Some were just curious.
Others came ready with resumes.
One attendee even had his resume sent through on the spot.

By the end of the day, we’d received several expressions of interest from young Territorians interested in construction and electrical pathways, with hopefully a few more emails still to come.

A great reminder: you don’t always need to have your whole career mapped out at 17 or 18.

You just need to know there are doors worth knocking on.

Today, that story is worn by our team every day.

More than just a uniform, this artwork represents who we are, where we come from, and the responsibility we carry to create opportunities that leave a lasting impact.

Every new home starts the same way, with a lot of work behind the scenes.

PROJECT PROGRESS | MILLNER URBAN PUBLIC HOUSING

Months of planning, approvals and coordination have laid the groundwork for our Millner Urban Public Housing development.

Now, that work is becoming visible, with the first buildings beginning to take shape above ground.

Over recent months, the team has completed:

• Bulk earthworks
• Early water service upgrades, including underboring works to minimise disruption to the surrounding community and existing road network
• Concrete slab construction across the development

With these foundations now in place, masonry works are underway as the first buildings begin to rise, marking another important milestone in the delivery of much-needed public housing for the Territory.

Projects like this are built through strong partnerships.

Thank you to our project team, subcontractors and stakeholders for their continued commitment, and to Schaper Concrete and Construction for delivering the civil works and concrete slabs, alongside Ash Huskisson Masonry , whose quality workmanship is now bringing the buildings to life.

We're proud to be delivering this development in partnership with the Northern Territory Government's Department of Logistics and Infrastructure and look forward to sharing its progress as construction continues.

Ray’s father Len had a simple lesson: always do your best.

But doing our best was never just about working hard.

For us, doing our best means proving commercial success and Community, Country and culture belong together.

We measure success not just by what gets built, but by who get to benefit:

🔹 Showing young Aboriginal people that there are opportunities for them in this industry

🔹 Remote communities gaining more than infrastructure, staying connected on Country

🔹 Local people being consulted, building skills and confidence close to home

Reflecting on NAIDOC Week, that lesson feels more alive than ever.

The best way to honour those who came before us is to create opportunities for those who come after. When we create opportunities for others, we give them choice.

We’re always proud to celebrate the achievements and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and to be standing alongside Indigenous businesses paving the way forward.

Few contractors can say they’ve worked across this many remote locations in Australia.

From remote communities and ranger stations to regional infrastructure and urban construction projects, our work has taken us across the Northern Territory and beyond.

For Founder Ray Pratt, that journey started years ago, working alongside his father on the tools in places like the Tiwi Islands and surrounding remote communities of the NT.

Remote construction comes with a different level of complexity.

Success depends on:

➡️ meticulous planning
➡️ building genuine relationships
