The delicate balance of self service and service of others. The BIG determining factor being your "intention" 🙏💕🌏....
🔥 Service to Self vs. Service to Others
I was talking with a friend today about the difference between service to self and service to others, and I felt like it was something worth sharing.
There are two very different ways to move through this world.
One path asks, “What can I take from this?” The other asks, “What can I bring to this?”
Service to self is not the same as loving yourself, protecting your peace, or having healthy boundaries. Those things are necessary. True service to self is when the self becomes an altar, when everything is filtered through gain, control, image, or advantage. It is the quiet belief that other people exist as stepping stones, mirrors for validation, or resources to be used. In that state, even connection becomes transactional. Even kindness becomes currency. Even love becomes something measured by what it returns.
Service to others does not mean self-erasure. It is not self-sacrifice dressed up as virtue, and it is not the abandonment of your own needs. It is something far more grounded and honest. It is the recognition that you are not separate from the impact you leave behind. That every word, every action, every silence carries weight beyond your own experience. It is choosing to move through the world without extracting more than you give, without harming what you touch just to elevate yourself above it.
It means using your strength without turning it into dominance. Speaking truth without turning it into a weapon. Offering help without needing to be seen as the hero. It is power without distortion.
The difference is often found in the quietest place of all: intention.
Not what you say you are doing, but what you are actually feeding inside yourself while you do it.
Are you giving because something in you is genuinely moved toward care, or because you are trying to be seen as good? Are you leading because you feel called to lift others, or because you need to be above them to feel secure? Are you protecting your energy from a real depletion, or are you using “boundaries” as a polished word for avoidance, superiority, or unexamined fear?
These questions are uncomfortable because they remove the illusion of purity. And that is the point.
We all carry both impulses. No one is untouched by ego, and no one is incapable of love. The work is not to pretend we are one and not the other, it is to become honest enough to notice which voice is speaking before we act.
Because awareness changes everything.
You can care for yourself deeply and still be in service to life. In fact, the most stable form of service comes from someone who is not leaking from emptiness, not performing goodness for approval, but rooted enough to give without collapse and strong enough to say no without resentment. A person who understands that wholeness is what makes generosity sustainable.
The world does not need more people performing goodness while secretly feeding their ego in hidden ways. It does not need saviors, martyrs, or spiritual identities built on superiority. It needs people who are awake enough to their own motives that they stop unconsciously harming others while believing they are helping.
It needs human beings who are honest about their shadows, responsible with their power, and willing to choose integrity even when no one is watching.
At the end of the day, the question is not about labels or identities.
It is about impact.
Does your presence only circle back to serve you, or does something in you extend outward in a way that makes life a little more honest, a little more bearable, a little more awake for everyone you touch?
