Great work Tiannah and Hadspen Plumbing. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Congratulation to apprentice plumber Tiannah Leonard who is the Tasmanian Gas Pipeline (TGP) Scholarship Fund recipient for 2026!! πŸ‘

Tiannah is studying her Certificate III in Plumbing while completing her apprenticeship at Hadspen Plumbing and Gas in Launceston.

The $5000 scholarship is going to help Tiannah set herself up in the plumbing industry by purchasing professional tools and helping with vehicle maintenance costs.

β€œThis is such a great opportunity and I’m so thankful for all the encouragement and support from so many people,” Tianna said on receiving the good news.

β€œAlthough I’ve only been in this field for three or four months, I’ve found myself to really enjoy this work. I wouldn’t have it any other way and I’m super committed to completing my apprenticeship with TasTAFE.”

The TGP Scholarship Fund provides financial support to Tasmanian women undertaking a first-year apprenticeship with TasTAFE in plumbing and electrotechnology related trades, helping to reduce financial barriers and support successful participation in training.

πŸ’™ Men's Health Week is an important reminder that health is about more than what we can see.

Physical health, mental wellbeing, healthy relationships, and staying connected all play a vital role in living a healthy and fulfilling life.

This week, we're encouraging men to take a proactive approach to their healthβ€”whether that's booking a check-up, getting active, making time to unwind, or simply having an honest conversation with someone they trust.

A simple check-in can make a real difference. Reach out to a mate, a family member, a colleague, or someone in your community and ask, "How are you really doing?"

Small actions today can lead to healthier tomorrows.

Let's support the men in our lives to prioritise their health and wellbeingβ€”not just this week, but every day.

πŸ“’ **Update: National Construction Code (NCC) Changes in Tasmania**

We are advising members of recent changes to the application of the National Construction Code (NCC) in Tasmania following the commencement of the Building Amendment Bill 2026, which received Royal Assent on 5 June 2026.

What has changed?
* NCC 2025 has been paused in Tasmania
* NCC 2022 now applies again from 5 June 2026
* NCC 2022 will remain in effect until May 2027, when NCC 2025 will be reintroduced

What this means in practice πŸ‘‡

* NCC 2025 applied to projects lodged between 1 May 2026 and 4 June 2026
* From 5 June 2026 onward, NCC 2022 applies to new applications
* Projects already approved must be completed in accordance with the NCC version that was in force at the time of approval

# # # Important reminder

If a project was approved under NCC 2025, that version of the Code continues to apply for the duration of that project.

MPAT will continue to monitor developments and keep members informed of any further changes.

The Fair Work Commission has announced a **4.75% increase to modern award minimum wages** and an increase to the **National Minimum Wage to $26.44 per hour**, effective from the first full pay period on or after **1 July 2026**.

For businesses covered by the Plumbing and Fire Sprinklers Award, this means higher minimum wage rates and increased labour costs that should be factored into:
βœ”οΈ Future quotations
βœ”οΈ Tenders
βœ”οΈ Forward contracts
βœ”οΈ Business budgets and cash flow planning

Employers should also be mindful of the commencement of **Payday Super** from 1 July 2026 and the combined impact these changes may have on operating costs.

MPAT will provide members with updated wage and allowance schedules as soon as the Fair Work Commission publishes the final determinations. These resources will be available through the Members Portal before the new rates take effect.
