🪄 Weeds be gone! 🪄
Welcome to Spring ☘️ With a wet end to Winter and the sudden rise in temperature the w**ds have just exploded recently.
You’ve probably noticed the sea of yellow flowers in the fields on your way out of town, perhaps you even have them growing in your own backyard? This pretty little number is called Firew**d, and aptly so. It’s comes up out of nowhere when conditions are right like a raging fire, it disperses seeds everywhere then when the weather gets too hot for firew**d it fades away till the next season.
Firew**d is an aggressive spreader. Each plant can produce up to 10,000 seeds which are easily carried on the wind, seeds can then lay dormant in the soil til conditions are just right (up to 7 years) before starting the cycle all over again.
This season is particularly favourable for firew**d growth. The best method of control is to pull it, bag it and burn it. If that’s too overwhelming due to the sheer plant numbers then the next best option is to mow it, collect the clippings and then burn it. Firew**d is one w**d I will not put in my hot compost, it’s added to a burn pile and goes up in flames instead 🔥
Early control when the seeds are just starting to germinate is achieved with a selective broadleaf herbicide, my favourite is Bow and Arrow, which is pet friendly (when dry). It does take up to 6 weeks to completely destroy the w**ds, but by golly it does a good job 💪🏻
