I've recently attended two carpet moth jobs in Eltham and Templestowe, so it’s worth knowing what to look out for!
Unlike clothes moths, carpet moth larvae can feed on natural fibres, potentially damaging carpets, rugs and upholstered furniture.
Signs to watch for:
• Small, bare patches or unexplained damage to carpets and rugs
• Fine, silken webbing or tiny cases among carpet fibres
• Small cream-coloured larvae or tiny moths around the home
• Damage in undisturbed areas, such as under furniture, along skirting boards or inside wardrobes
How can you help prevent them?
✔️ Vacuum carpets, rugs and edges regularly, especially under furniture
✔️ Check wool and other natural-fibre furnishings for signs of damage
✔️ Avoid letting dust, hair and debris build up in carpet edges and corners
If you spot signs of carpet moths, don’t ignore them. A thorough inspection can help identify the extent of the problem and determine the most effective treatment.
