BSS Group is a medium-sized building consultancy firm based in Essendon and we are looking for a fabulous Bookkeeper to join our team. The role can be mainly home-based with regular visits to our Essendon office or work in the office with our team of 10.

We are looking for someone 2-3 days a week, flexible hours, with availability to answer our questions 5 days a week.
The role would include syncing invoices with Xero, generating weekly invoices, monthly payroll and general bookkeeping duties.

We deeply empathise with homeowners impacted by the collapse of Porter Davis Homes. Progress on the build of your home has halted and you face uncertainty and a complex process to get things moving again.

As an independent building consultancy firm, we can support you with one of the critical first steps by providing Defects and Stage of Works reports.

A Defects report documents existing defects, which the new builder will need to address.

A Stage of Works report is a snapshot in time, clarifying the works that were completed by Porter Davis and the works that are remaining to complete your home.

These reports will assist in processing your insurance claim for the cost of defect rectification and where there are increased costs to complete the project compared to the original contract value.

After providing Quality Assurance on Porter Davis builds for nearly 20 years, like so many, we are still processing the news about their collapse. The impact on our business is significant but we know many people are experiencing real hardship right now: PD staff, contractors, suppliers, and of course, customers.

Wishing all those affected the best of luck charting a way forward. From all the team at BSS.

Great to be involved with another Independent Builders Network event, thanks Steve Rowath for inviting us. This time our Director, Sunny Blumson-Thiele and Senior Building Consultant, Ryan Grieve, were presenting on the new AS 3740-2021 Standard to be adopted by the National Construction Code in May this year.

There are some pretty significant changes to consider, including more detailed requirements for design and installation, improved testing requirements, new guidance on substrate preparation, and clarification of roles and responsibilities.

It was great to see the IBN members getting familiar with the new standard before its introduction. We’re always happy to help builders understand how to comply with industry standards to ensure the quality of their builds...Nothing like a major Standard update to get us talking at BSS!

Catching up on Federal budget news! It’s great to see support for new homebuyers in the 2022-2023 Federal budget, with the inclusion of the government-funded ‘Help to Buy’ scheme.

Feedback from economists has been positive, with Brendan Coates from the Grattan Institute calling it “the missing piece of the puzzle in Australia’s housing policy architecture”.
