🌴 Precision Palm Pruning Transformation 🌴
These mature date palms were carefully pruned to enhance their natural form, health, and street appeal.
✅ Removed dead, damaged, and declining fronds
✅ Cleaned old leaf bases for a tidy, uniform trunk appearance
✅ Lifted the canopy to improve visibility and create a more balanced landscape profile
✅ Removed seed stalks and excess growth to reduce weight and maintenance requirements
✅ Retained a full, healthy crown avoiding over-pruning, which can stress palms and slow growth

A common mistake is the "hurricane cut," where too many green fronds are removed. Healthy palms rely on those green fronds for energy production, so we only remove what is necessary while preserving the tree's natural canopy shape.
The result is a clean, symmetrical look that highlights the height and structure of these impressive palms while maintaining their long-term health and vigor.
🌿 Professional pruning isn't just about appearance, it's about protecting the tree, promoting healthy growth, and adding value to the entire property!

Technical version for tree-care audiences:
These palms received a selective canopy clean, removing only dead and senescing fronds below the 9 and 3 o'clock positions. Old leaf boots were trimmed and trunks detailed for a uniform finish while preserving the structural integrity of the stem. Seed stalks and residual debris were removed, and the crowns were balanced to maintain maximum photosynthetic capacity. This approach follows industry best practice by avoiding excessive canopy reduction and preserving tree health, stability, and appearance. 🌴

🌳 When "Green" Isn't Always Good for Trees 🌿

At first glance, a tree covered in vines may look picturesque and natural. But beneath the greenery, the tree could be under significant stress.

Dense climbing vines can:
❌ Block sunlight from the tree's foliage
❌ Add excessive weight to branches, increasing failure risk
❌ Trap moisture against the trunk, promoting decay
❌ Hide defects, cavities, and disease from view
❌ Compete with the tree for vital water and nutrients

Over time, heavy vine growth can reduce tree health, increase safety risks, and make professional inspections much more difficult.

✅ Removing invasive or excessive vines helps trees thrive, improves structural safety, and allows arborists to properly assess the tree's condition.

A healthy tree should be the star of the landscape—not the vine growing on it.

🌳 Give Your Trees the Best Start in Life 🌳
Healthy trees don’t just happen—they thrive with the right care, especially in their early years.
💧 Water Wisely
Young trees need regular watering to establish strong roots. Keep the soil moist, not waterlogged, and deep water during dry periods to encourage healthy root growth.
🍂 Mulch Matters
Apply a 5–10 cm layer of organic mulch around the base (but not against the trunk) to retain moisture, suppress w**ds, and protect roots from extreme temperatures.
✂️ Prune for Growth
Once established, annual pruning helps remove dead or damaged branches and promotes strong, healthy development.
🌱 Keep Weeds Away
Maintain a w**d- and grass-free zone around young trees to reduce competition for water and nutrients.
🐛 Monitor for Pests & Disease
Regular inspections can help identify issues early. Tree guards can also protect young trees from animals and accidental damage.
❄️ Protect Roots & Soil
Check for soil movement after frost or heavy rain, ensuring roots remain covered and well-supported with good drainage.
🌿 Think Long-Term
Choose tree species suited to your local environment and continue monitoring their health as they mature.
A little care today can result in stronger, healthier trees for generations to come. 🌳💚

Preserving mature trees is always our preferred approach where it is safe and practical to do so. This tree had begun to split through the centre of the trunk, so rather than opting for removal as the first solution, our qualified arborist carried out a structural support repair using specialist bracing bolts to help stabilise and strengthen the tree.

The goal is to support the ongoing health, safety, and longevity of the tree, allowing it the best opportunity to continue growing for many years to come. 🌳

Keeping verge trees professionally pruned and uplifted is about much more than appearance — it’s an essential part of maintaining healthy, safe, and long-lasting urban trees. 🌳
As professional arborists, we work alongside councils to carefully remove deadwood, improve canopy structure, and uplift lower branches to create safer and more functional streetscapes for the whole community.
Why is this important?
✅ Improves tree health by removing damaged or diseased limbs
✅ Encourages stronger structure and balanced growth
✅ Reduces the risk of branch failure during storms and high winds
✅ Increases clearance for pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles, and waste collection trucks
✅ Improves visibility for drivers and street lighting
✅ Helps prevent branches interfering with homes, powerlines, and infrastructure
✅ Enhances the overall appearance and longevity of the tree
✅ Supports healthier airflow and light pe*******on through the canopy
Proper pruning performed by qualified arborists helps trees thrive while keeping our streets safer and more enjoyable for everyone. 🌿

Dreaming of the perfect garden in Perth? 🌿 There’s nothing better than creating your own backyard oasis, a space you can relax in and enjoy all year round.
Perth’s unique climate and soil conditions can make gardening a little challenging. Choosing the right plants and trees for your area is the key to creating a thriving landscape.
🌱 Know Your Soil
Perth properties generally fall into two soil types:
• Coastal areas = sandy soil
• Hills and inland areas = clay soil
Sandy soil drains quickly and suits plants like succulents and drought-tolerant natives, while clay soil retains moisture and is ideal for plants that love a little extra water.
🌳 Best Trees for Coastal Areas
Perfect for sandy, well-drained soils:
• Xanthorrhoea preissii (Grass Tree)
• Acorn Banksia
• Hakea varieties
🌼 Best Trees for Hills & Inland Areas
Great for clay-based soils:
• Kangaroo Paw
• Candlestick Banksia
• Quandong trees

Thinking of planting a ficus tree? Read this first 🌳⚠️

Many ficus varieties are shaped into neat ornamental balls for pots and landscaping, but don’t be fooled by their tidy appearance. Once planted in the ground, their roots can become extremely aggressive.

Ficus roots are known to damage:
• Paving and driveways
• Sewer and drainage pipes
• Retaining walls
• Building foundations

And even when kept in pots, they can still escape! If the pot sits on soil or paving, roots often grow through the drainage holes in search of water and nutrients.

Another important consideration is pruning. Regular trimming often stimulates fast, aggressive new growth, meaning ongoing maintenance can quickly become time-consuming and expensive.

Species to be especially cautious of include:
❌ Weeping Fig
❌ Moreton Bay Fig
❌ Port Jackson Fig

Always research mature root systems and long-term maintenance requirements before planting trees near homes or infrastructure.

⚠️ Awareness Notice: Jack Pepper Tree / Brazilian Pepper Tree ⚠️

The “Jack Pepper Tree,” also known as the Brazilian Pepper Tree (Schinus terebinthifolia), is an invasive species that poses a serious threat to local ecosystems. Originally from South America, this fast-growing tree spreads aggressively and forms dense thickets that crowd out native plants and wildlife.
While it may look attractive with its bright red berries and green foliage, appearances can be deceiving 🌿❌

Why it’s a problem:
• Outcompetes native vegetation
• Disrupts natural habitats and biodiversity
• Spreads rapidly across bushland, wetlands, and coastal areas
• Can cause skin irritation from sap contact
• Berries may be toxic to animals
Please avoid planting or spreading this species, and report infestations where possible. Protecting native environments starts with awareness and responsible gardening 🌱
