An elderly woman had a lucky escape after she was struck by lightning in Sydney while peeling potatoes in the kitchen. Its believed electricity may have traveled into the house through the kitchen sink after lightning hit a copper pipe. All homes should be earthed with an earth stake and have the water pipes protected with an exponentiation bond. Your main earth stake and exponential bond is an integral part of your electrical safety system. You need one as shown here and a cable attached to your water pipe. Let the copper become the earth, not you.

Look out for water leaks and electricity, not a good combination!

Water is a good conductor of electricity. If water leaks into your light or power circuits in your home, a fault may develop, which could result in a fire or someone experiencing electric shock. As soon as you notice a water leak, have it repaired by a licensed plumber. If you can not restore power call a licensed electrician. For added safety your home should be protected with a safety switch.
