Most of you know me as Wally's wife or Mrs Wally's Weather .

Or as one of the admins quietly keeping an eye on Wally's Weather.

Or perhaps as the person behind many of the photos that appear on this page. Capturing the beauty of North Queensland has become one of my favourite things to do.

But what you probably don't know is... that's never actually been my full-time job.

For more than 20 years I've been leading local organisations through growth, change, governance, strategy and operational improvement.

I've worked with charities, community organisations, government and purpose-driven businesses. I've led teams through disasters, major transformations and some incredibly challenging times.

Over the years, one thing has become really clear. Most organisations don't struggle because people don't care. They struggle because good people become overwhelmed.

Business owners wear every hat. Leaders spend so much time putting out today's fires that there's no time to build tomorrow. Boards want to do the right thing but don't always have the support they need.

And somewhere between the vision and the reality......a gap appears.

That's why I've launched The Governance Gap.

Not to write reports that gather dust. Not to create dependence. But to work alongside organisations, helping them build the leadership, governance and operational capability to become stronger, more sustainable and more confident in where they're heading.

Imperfections in your paint – what could be causing them?

Living in the tropics, there are plenty of reasons why imperfections can appear in painted surfaces. Moisture, age, heat and general wear can all play a part.

However, imperfections in paint can also be one of the more subtle signs of termite activity.

As termites consume the timber beneath the surface, they often leave the thin outer paint layer intact. This can create raised or uneven areas in the paint. You may also notice fine, dark dust near timber joins or walls that feel soft or paper-thin when gently pressed.

While these signs don't automatically mean you have termites, there are other warning signs to look for around your home, including mud shelter tubes along concrete slabs, soft or hollow-sounding skirting boards, or timber that appears damaged.

If you're ever unsure, it's always worth having it checked.

An annual termite inspection can detect problems early and potentially save you thousands of dollars in repairs.

A single breeding pair of rats and their rapidly maturing offspring can theoretically multiply into more than 1,200 rats in just 12 months if conditions are favourable.

In North Queensland, rodents are active year-round, with population increases commonly seen during the wet season and again through the cooler months as they seek food, shelter and warmth inside homes and businesses.

Once rodents gain access, they can cause extensive damage. Because their teeth never stop growing, they constantly gnaw on electrical wiring, timber, plumbing, insulation and plastics, increasing the risk of costly repairs and even electrical fires.

The key to successful rodent management isn't simply placing bait. It starts with identifying how rodents are entering your property, eliminating harbourage where possible, to prevent populations from establishing in the first place.

Yes... the Townsville Show ticket draw is running a little behind! 🙈

Turns out being a small local business means that sometimes we're not just the pest controllers... we're also the receptionists, bookkeepers, marketers, social media team, customer service department... and this week, we've been buried under the joy that is End of Financial Year paperwork. 📚💸🤦‍♀️

Coastal Brown Ants (or Big-Headed Ants) are notorious in Townsville for leaving unsightly dirt mounds along pavers and driveways.
