What hotter, drier weather means for water supplies

Last month, the Bureau of Meteorology declared El Nino and also recorded the driest September on record for our region (since 1900).

We are carefully monitoring climate conditions and storage levels and we are ready to take contingency actions if required. We're also planning for a secure water future in line with actions highlighted in the Urban Water Strategy: Water for our Future.

You can help, too. By being mindful of how you use water everyday - for example, take a shorter shower, turn off the tap when you're brushing your teeth and use the eco setting on your washing machine. And did you know that drip irrigation under mulch, is the most efficient way to keep your garden well watered? And by using mulch on your garden, you can reduce water evaporation by up to 70%. You can find more helpful hints on saving water in your garden here.

These small changes all help. When we each save a little, together we can have a big impact. We want to avoid the need for imposing harsh water restrictions in the future.

W**d Removal Options
Hand Removal
Many small w**ds can be carefully pulled out by hand; however, you will need to make sure you have removed the roots. Using a w**ding trowel or long handled mechanical device and prizing around the roots will help ensure total removal. The bigger the w**d, the bigger and stronger the roots.

Herbicide Treatment Options
There are various herbicides available, including selective and non-selective types.

Non-selective products like Round Up (Glyphosate) kill most plants including your lawn; selective herbicides target specific w**ds only.

It is strongly recommended that you consult your local nursery or turf expert to properly identify the w**d in question first, so you can treat it with an appropriate and effective spray.

Post-emergent Broadleaf Herbicides
For common broadleaf w**ds like cudw**d, clover, bindii or creeping oxalis, you can use a broadleaf herbicide like Amgrow Bin die or Lawn Solutions All Purpose W**d Control. These products generally contain actives like Bromoxynil, MCPA and Dicamba. For buffalo lawns, except ST varieties, make sure you use the Bromoxynil based products like Lawn Solutions All Purpose W**d Control as Dicamba can harm your buffalo grass.

Position: Customer Service Representative – Irrigation Shop
Location: Geelong West, 92 Pako St.
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:45am - 3:15pm

Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Customer Service Representative at our irrigation shop located in Geelong West on Pako St. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to effectively manage customer inquiries and orders. While experience with watering systems is beneficial, it is not mandatory, as we are willing to train the right candidate.

Responsibilities:

Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with inquiries, product recommendations, and order placement.
Utilize your interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with customers, ensuring their needs are met effectively.
Process orders accurately and efficiently using our computer systems.
Maintain detailed records of customer interactions and orders for future reference.
Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth order fulfillment and timely delivery.
Assist with inventory management and restocking shelves as needed.
Display a hands-on approach by assisting customers with product demonstrations and troubleshooting.
Show willingness to learn and expand your knowledge, including the possibility of gaining irrigation design skills.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment to enhance the shopping experience for customers.

Qualifications:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
Basic computer skills for order processing and maintaining records.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
Attention to detail to accurately process orders and maintain organized records.
Prior experience in customer service or retail is a plus.
Interest in irrigation systems and a willingness to learn about product offerings.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Physical ability to perform tasks such as product demonstrations and shelf restocking.
