At Orana House, the kitchen was designed to be more than a place to cook — it is the centre of family life. The brief called for a space that could support busy everyday routines while still feeling calm, generous and welcoming. It needed to work hard in the background, but also feel right for slow mornings, after-school conversations, weekend entertaining and the everyday rituals that make a house feel like home.
Behind the main kitchen, a walk-in pantry keeps the working side of life tucked away, complete with a fridge and second sink. It lets the main kitchen stay clean and open, while storage, preparation and overflow all have their place.
Out front, crisp white cabinetry and warm beige Caesarstone benchtops create a soft, timeless palette. The materials feel light and enduring rather than trend-driven, adding warmth without overwhelming the space.
The 900mm freestanding cooker anchors the back bench, while the island becomes the natural gathering point. With the double bowl sink and Zip tap positioned at the centre of daily activity, the layout allows someone to cook, rinse, serve or pour a cup of tea while still being part of the conversation.
Our favourite detail is the way the floorboards wrap up the dining-room side of the island bench. It is practical, durable and beautifully considered, but it also makes the island feel warmer and more furniture-like, connecting the kitchen to the dining space and inviting people to pull up a stool.
These are the details we love most — the ones that quietly shape how people live in a space every day.
