Wow, what a show the weather put on yesterday rain, rain and more rain ⛈️🌨️☔️ 😱!

We hope everyone was able to stay safe and dry, especially under your own roofs!

Weather like this is the perfect time for a reminder to make sure your roof is well maintained and protected from any nasty leaks!

Unfortunately a lot of the time home owners/tenants don’t see the affects of water damage until it’s too late and causing issues inside the home!

Did you know that if your roof is not properly maintained your insurance company can reject your claim to repair those damages until the roof is maintained 😫

Here are some examples of the most common causes of leaks and damages we have come across 😲🫣

- Broken/cracked or split tiles, even the tiniest of pin holes can cause you a lot of grief!

- Damaged/cracked and missing bedding and pointing, once the cracks start to appear in pointing the roof is no longer properly sealed and water can easily seep in through to the mortar causing deterioration and eventually causing ridge caps to shift or completely dislodge

- Rusted Valley Irons and unsealed Valleys a common cause of this is also outdated practices that no longer meet Australian standards such as bedded valleys and not having weep holes installed

- Caked up Moss and dirt that can cause excess water to pool an overflood the water courses creating a dam like effect causing water to seep back up into the roof 💦 and as well as masking damaged tiles and debris underneath all the moss!

Did you know that if your roof is not properly maintained your insurance company can deny your claims leaving you out of pocket to fix any damages, unfortunately we have seen this happen time and time again, especially after wild winter weather!

Take a look at one of the repairs we attended yesterday morning in Bannockburn due to damages caused by the crazy winds this week 💨🏚️🫢

High winds had caused the ridge capping to fall completely off the roof, our team jumped and replaced the damaged ridge caps securing them down with a rebed and finished off the job with a full repoint across the rest of the roof to ensure all other ridge were kept secure and sealed to prevent any further damages!

We had a number of similar call outs regarding the same issues from the winds with ridge caps and tiles falling from the roof, although no damage is good damage these home owners are the unlucky but lucky ones that can see the damage immediately and can be on the forefront of getting it fixed, unfortunately a lot of time damages to your roof can go unnoticed until a bigger problem arises such as a leak in your home, it’s important to be vigilant and have your roof inspected regularly especially after wild weather/storms!
