👷‍♂️ MENTOR DAY | NEWCOMB SECONDARY COLLEGE

Boz, Joel and Matt recently headed along to Newcomb Secondary College to talk all things civil construction!

From what happens out on site to the different roles, skills and career pathways available, it was a great opportunity to share some real-world experience and give students an insight into our industry.

At Draper’s, we’re proud to support our local schools and the next generation of workers coming through.

Thanks to Newcomb Secondary College for having us! 👏

👷‍♂️ MEET THE TEAM – SID GLENISTER

This week, we’re introducing Sid Glenister, one of our Project Managers!

🔹 What’s your role at Draper’s Civil Contracting, and how long have you been part of the team?

I’ve been with Draper’s for nearly four years and currently work as a Project Manager.

🔹 What is your favourite part about working at Draper’s Civil Contracting?

There are plenty of things I enjoy about working at Draper’s, but my top three would be:

The team – Everyone is supportive and friendly, and the company has a great family feel to it.

The job satisfaction – Seeing projects through from start to finish and delivering high-quality infrastructure that benefits the community is extremely rewarding.

The challenge – Draper’s provides great opportunities to grow and learn within the civil construction industry, while working on projects that are both challenging and rewarding.

🔹 Why were you drawn to the civil construction industry?

I’ve always been drawn to the construction industry, and Draper’s provided me with a great opportunity to develop my skills and knowledge while building my career in civil construction.

🔹 What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with family and friends, swimming, running and supporting the mighty North Melbourne Kangaroos. 🔵⚪

Thanks for sharing, Sid! It’s great to have you as part of the Draper’s team. 👏

🚛 New Addition to the Fleet! 🚛

Our Number one float driver, has just taken the wheel of our latest addition 🎉

This impressive new addition to the Draper's fleet is ready to hit the road, safely transporting our plant and equipment to projects across the region. And if you know Fordie, you'll know one thing for sure... you won't miss it! It'll be one of the cleanest and best-presented trucks around!

Congratulations, Fordie—we hope you enjoy every kilometre smiling behind the wheel !

Last week, our team on site enjoyed a well-earned hot lunch after several weeks of working through challenging wet and muddy conditions.

A huge thank you to the Common Ground Projectd Project for putting on a delicious baked potato lunch with an incredible range of toppings. It was the perfect way to warm up after a tough morning on site and was greatly appreciated by everyone.

It was also a great opportunity to learn more about the incredible work the Common Ground Project does. As a regenerative farm and social enterprise based in Freshwater Creek, they create opportunities through food, farming and employment pathways while improving access to healthy, locally grown food for people in our community.

Their work is making a real difference across the Geelong region, and we're proud to support organisations creating lasting social impact.

Thanks again to the team at Common Ground Project for the fantastic lunch and for everything you do to support the Greater Geelong community. Strong communities are built through collaboration, and we're proud to support organisations making a positive difference where we live and work.

👷 🌧️ Palomino Estate – Stage 3 Update 🌧️ 👷

It might be wet, muddy and tough going, but our crews aren't letting the conditions slow them down! 👷

Despite some of the most challenging conditions we've seen in a long time, our pipe crews continue to push ahead and make great progress.

A massive shout out to the team for battling through the mud every day while continuing to deliver quality work safely.

Your hard work, resilience and positive attitude are what keeps projects moving forward.

Great effort everyone – keep up the awesome work! 👊

👷‍♂️ MEET THE TEAM 👷‍♂️
This month, we're introducing Brent Wright our HSEQ & Sustainability Manager at Draper's Civil Contracting.

Brent has been part of the Draper's team for 24 years, starting as a Labourer before progressing through a variety of on-site roles and into Project Management, where he spent the past 15 years successfully delivering civil and gas infrastructure projects.

More recently, Brent transitioned into the role of HSEQ & Sustainability Manager, where he is responsible for strengthening the company's health, safety, environmental and quality systems while driving sustainability initiatives that deliver socially responsible outcomes for Draper's, our clients, and the local community.

💬 What does Brent enjoy most about working at Draper's?
"The stability and long-term opportunities the company provides. Over the past 24 years, I've had the opportunity to grow my career through a range of roles, and Draper's has continually supported my professional development. It's rewarding to work for a company that invests in its people and creates opportunities to build a long-term career."

💬 Why did you choose the civil construction industry?
"It wasn't initially a deliberate career choice. With several family members already working in the civil construction industry and at Draper's, it was a natural opportunity to join the team."

💬What do you enjoy outside of work?
"Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and giving back to the community through volunteering. I'm currently the Vice President of Try Boys Basketball Club, where I help support the club's growth and development, and I also serve as a Committee Member with the Try Boys Brigade. It's rewarding to be involved in organisations that make a positive difference in the local community."

We're proud to have had Brent as part of the Draper's team for the past 24 years and greatly appreciate the expertise, commitment, and enthusiasm he has brought to the wide variety of roles he has undertaken throughout his career. His dedication and willingness to embrace new challenges have made a lasting contribution to both the business and the communities we serve.

💙 Men's Health Week at Draper's Civil Contracting 💙

This week we've been recognising Men's Health Week, taking the opportunity to remind our team that looking after your health—both physically and mentally—is just as important as getting the job done safely.

Construction can be a demanding industry, so we encourage everyone to take a moment to check in on themselves and their mates. A simple conversation can make a real difference.

A big thank you to Fruit2Work Aus for supplying our team with fresh fruit and some tasty treats this week to help support the initiative.

Let's continue to make health, wellbeing and looking out for one another part of our everyday culture.

"The supportive work culture. Everyone is approachable, works together like family, and makes every day enjoyable."

"As a Civil Engineer, I've always wanted to contribute to infrastructure that benefits the community. Being part of one of Geelong's longest-established civil contractors makes that even more rewarding."

🚧 Project Update – COGG Drainage Program 🚧

Last week, the team has been hard at work on the Waterfront as part of the COGG Drainage Program, completing stormwater drainage upgrades. Works included the establishment of local traffic management, excavation of existing pavement, installation of new pit and pipe networks, and reinstatement of pavements.

Pushing through multiple wet and rainy nights, the team worked tirelessly to ensure these critical infrastructure upgrades could be completed while minimising disruption to traffic flows and the surrounding community.

Working nights in challenging weather conditions is never easy, but the team has continued to demonstrate its commitment and resilience in delivering these works safely and efficiently.

A huge thank you and well done to everyone involved throughout this project — your hard work, long nights, and dedication have certainly not gone unnoticed. 👏
