This year marks 50 years since the founding of Walz Construction by Colin and Desley Walz.

What began in 1976 with a small subcontracting opportunity at Gladstone Power Station became the start of a business built on hard work, strong relationships and great people.

While the business has evolved over the years, the values it was founded on remain unchanged.

As Walz Group celebrates this milestone, we thank everyone who has been part of the journey over the past 50 years — our employees, clients, suppliers and families, past and present.

We are incredibly proud of our history and excited for the future ahead.

Congratulations to our boilermaker apprentices 👏

Great to see another group progressing well as they complete their final TAFE block with CQU. Nathan Taylor, Miguel Rios, Travis Burton, Luke Barwick and Trek Wright have all put in the work and continued building strong fabrication skills throughout their apprenticeship.

Walz is looking for skilled Industrial Painting and Coating Applicators to join our Gladstone team for an immediate start across site project works and workshop, in line with high safety standards and site specifications.

About the Job:
· Casual position with full-time hours and stable employment
· Competitive hourly rate + overtime and penalty rates

Expectations:
· Experience working to industrial coating specifications
· White Card
· Driver’s licence
· Experience in construction, oil & gas or mining industries
· Strong team player; proactive and reliable with high safety standards
· Certificate III in Surface Preparation and Coating – highly regarded
· NACE/AMPP Coating Inspection – highly regarded
· Asbestos Class A & B – highly regarded

Roles:
· Mobilising and demobilising blasting hoppers, spray pumps and encapsulations
· Abrasive blasting, ranging from a whip blast to Class SA 3 on ferrous and non-ferrous substrates using garnet and steel abrasives
· Brush/roll stripe coating as required
· Using mainly airless spray equipment to apply up to 3-coat systems to required DFTs/specifications
· Application of inorganic zincs, epoxy zincs, high build epoxies, antifouls and acrylic polyurethanes
· Remediating areas marked by quality inspectors to meet client specifications
· Maintaining a safe and tidy work area and product storage
· Performing other general duties as required

Requirements (not essential):
· Painting experience (house, automotive or industrial)
· Confined Spaces
· Gas Test Atmospheres
· Working at Heights
· Forklift Ticket (desirable)

Throughout his time, Logan stayed consistent, put in the work, and kept developing his skills across a range of jobs. It’s been great to see his growth from day one to now.
Logan has now gained full-time work with WALZ as a qualified tradie.

Logan would like to thank Ray and the team at ATQLD, along with WALZ, for the support and guidance along the way.

Now a qualified Fixed and Mobile Plant Mechanic after completing his Cert III. A great achievement and a well-earned step forward in his trade career. 👏

Connor Ninness has got it done — now a qualified Fixed and Mobile Plant Mechanic after completing his Cert III with WALZ.

A mix of hands-on work, new challenges, and plenty of learning along the way helped shape his journey — and after getting the opportunity to resume his apprenticeship, Connor made it count.

A solid achievement and a well-earned step forward in the trade — congratulations, Connor 👏
