Keep an eye on your lawn , army worms are really bad this season.
If your lawn start to lose colour or die off for no apparent reason then the chances are you’ve got army worms.

These little buggers can eat your lawn in a two days.

If you’re unsure you can do an easy test , grab a bucket add 1.5 litres of water and a good dose of dishwashing detergent, stir well and pour on the affected area. They would come up within a minute or so. Always test 2-3 areas to be sure.

The recent weather conditions have created some issues with soil. We are seeing a lot of hydrophobic soil , it generally presents as dead or dying patches of lawn . This can be caused by any one of a number of issues , mowing too short doesn’t help as it exposes the ground to the baking sun . The other is sporadic watering.

Below is a lawn that has hydrophobic shock in comparison to a lawn we treated a week ago.

New lawn we’ve just started work on. The lawn is pretty thin and the ground is hard and bumpy.
We’ve scarified to get some air into it as well as allowing it to absorb moisture and nutrients.

Just fertilised and added a booster.

We’ll come back in a few weeks for an update.

Check out this lawn.
12 months ago this lawn was riddled with w**ds and very sparse, it had no colour and was struggling badly.
Scarifying and applying the right fertiliser as well as treating for w**ds has yielded great results.
Needless to say our client is VERY happy

Early spring , light scarify and application of fertiliser with minimal watering has returned this result.
This lawn is winter green couch and mowed at 8mm with a cylinder mower
