2027 smoke alarm requirements.
Hello everyone. Did you know that on January 1st 2027 the updated QLD smoke alarm legislation will now apply to all existing dwellings? This means that all homes need to have interconnected smoke alarm as per the legislation. This typically means one in each bedroom and the hallway. They also need to be interconnected which means when one goes off they all go off. Below is a link to the QLD fire service website which outlines the requirements in more detail.

Hi All
This sort of failure can be caused by a loose connection or equipment failure. In this case it was a failure of the 30 year old main switch. Failures like this due to switchgear failure are fairly rare but it’s a good reminder that nothing lasts forever and consideration should be given to upgrading old switchgear.

Hopefully you came out the other side of the cyclone ok and with no major damage.
If you want to minimise the impact of power outages in future storms then one option is to get a generator changeover switch and inlet installed on your switchboard ready for you to plug a generator into and keep your lights and power running.
