🚨 NEW SMOKE ALARM LAWS ARE COMING 🚨
From 1 January 2027, ALL Queensland homes must comply with the new smoke alarm legislation. That means if your home isn’t already upgraded, now is the time to act.
So what does this mean for homeowners?
✅ Photoelectric smoke alarms required
✅ Alarms must be interconnected — when one sounds, they all sound
✅ Smoke alarms required in every bedroom
✅ Alarms required in hallways connecting bedrooms
✅ At least one alarm required on every level of the home
These laws already apply to rental properties and homes being sold or leased — and from 2027 they extend to ALL owner-occupied homes across Queensland.
The purpose of the legislation is simple: better early warning, more time to escape, and improved safety for families. Queensland Fire Department states that all existing homes, townhouses and units must have compliant interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms installed by 1 January 2027.
